About This Position
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging, standards-aligned instruction in carpentry and construction technologies consistent with South Carolina CTE requirements.
- Teach students to safely use hand tools, power tools, and professional carpentry equipment.
- Provide instruction in construction fundamentals such as safety and OSHA basics, construction math and measurement, proper use of hand and power tools, blueprint reading, and an understanding of common construction materials and fasteners.
- Supervise hands-on shop activities and ensure all safety procedures are followed.
- Maintain an organized, OSHA-compliant workshop environment.
- Prepare lesson plans, assessments, and instructional materials.
- Support students in earning industry-recognized credentials (e.g., NCCER Carpentry, OSHA-10).
- Collaborate with school leadership to grow the carpentry and construction programs.
- Communicate regularly with parents, colleagues, and school administrators about student progress.
- Participate in professional development and school community activities.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor/administrator
Requirements:Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional carpentry or construction experience OR
eligibility for a South Carolina CTE Work-Based Certification route.
- Ability to pass background checks required by South Carolina law.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Commitment to student success in both academic and technical skill development.
Preferred:
- South Carolina teaching certification in Carpentry, Building Construction, or related CTE area.
- Experience working with high school–aged students.
