Position Overview
The Middle School Student Advocate provides academic, social, and emotional support to students, ensuring they meet program criteria in and out of school. This role collaborates with parents, community partners, and school administration to connect students with necessary resources. Success in this position is measured by student progress, engagement, and the effectiveness of support services provided.
Responsibilities and Duties
Essential Functions:
Student Monitoring & Support (25%)
- Track student grades, behavior, and attendance.
- Ensure students meet program criteria and academic progress.
- Connect students with necessary resources (tutoring, counseling, etc.).
Parental & Community Engagement (15%)
- Communicate with parents about resources and events.
- Encourage parental involvement in student academic success.
- Maintain engagement between community and schools.
Postsecondary & Career Readiness (15%)
- Guide students in college and career exploration.
- Organize postsecondary trips to expose students to future opportunities.
Departmental Collaboration & Support (10%)
- Assist other departments with projects and tracking information.
Middle School Coordinator Support (10%)
- Assist with field trip logistics, including transportation and meals.
Special Events Coordination (5%)
- Design and coordinate special events.
Team Communication & Support (15%)
- Offer assistance to team members as needed.
Non-Essential Functions (5%):
- Assist in the organization and cleanliness of the building.
- Cooperate in the pickup and organization of donated materials.
- Avail transportation for TIF students or staff, when necessary.
- Participate in tours as requested.
- Participate in community activities, as needed.
- Other duties as assigned by Director of Program Services, or CEO.
Education Level:
- Associate’s degree or some college experience in Education, Social Work, Counseling, or a related field preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in student advocacy, counseling, or educational support preferred.
- Experience working with middle school students and community engagement is a plus.
Specific Skills:
- Strong communication and relationship-building abilities.
- Ability to track and analyze student progress data.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and student management systems.
- Knowledge of available community and educational resources.
- Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
Certifications and Licenses:
- Driver’s License
Physical Abilities/Working Conditions:
- Occasional standing, sitting, and lifting (up to 25 lbs).
- Ability to work in an office and school environment with frequent student interaction.
- Occasional travel including overnight for student meetings and community events.
