Head Preschool Teacher in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at Augustana University

Augustana University invites applications for the position of Head Preschool Teacher in the Campus Learning Center. This is a full-time, year round position with a standard schedule of 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

The Head Preschool Teacher plays a key role in creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for children ages 3–5. This position works in partnership with families and staff to support each child’s physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development, fostering independence, belonging, and a love of learning.

The duties, competencies, and responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

Develop and implement age-appropriate curriculum and lesson plans that support core Kindergarten readiness academics.Create and maintain a positive, structured classroom environment that encourages learning, creativity, and explorationPlan and manage daily schedules and activities that promote children’s wellbeing and developmental progressCommunicate regularly and professionally with parents/guardians regarding student progress, classroom activities, and Center updatesPrepare and present child progress evaluations and participate in parent/teacher conferencesMaintain accurate and timely records related to attendance, nutrition, health, and student needsSupervise and mentor student assistants, including scheduling support and contributing to performance feedbackEnsure a clean, safe, and sanitary classroom environment through daily organization and maintenance practicesSupport family engagement opportunities such as open houses and community eventsComply with all Campus Learning Center policies, University procedures, and state childcare regulationsRequired Qualifications:

Experience in early childhood development or an elementary education environmentExperience in a childcare or related setting and/or an associate’s degree in early childhood developmentPreferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or a related fieldWorking Environment & Physical Requirements:

Regular interaction with children, families, and staff in a childcare settingAbility to work in a busy, active, and occasionally noisy environmentOccassional heavy liftingInteracting with students, faculty and leadership from diverse backgrounds and perspectives, along with a deep appreciation and respect for academic principles and culture, must be a top value of the candidate.
