Job Description

NICU Support Coordinator

This position will provide family support coverage on days, evenings, and weekends as needed. Shifts vary. It requires flexible availability Monday through Sunday between the hours of 8am to 8pm.

  • GENERAL SUMMARY
    • The Neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) Support Coordinator works collaboratively with NICU caregivers, leadership, and parents to integrate family and patient centered care principles into the delivery of services and provides direct parent and patient support at the bedside. Reports to department leadership.

  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Shares insight and expertise from a family perspective by participating in work groups, task forces and councils. Uses information from parents to improve services.
    • Provides bedside support and adjustment to hospital environment for families with an infant admitted to the NICU.
    • Provides/assists with one-on-one or group support.
    • Promotes family empowerment by encouraging involvement with their baby’s care and plan of care.
    • Helps to navigate available resources.
    • Serves as a member of the interdisciplinary care team.
    • Serves as an advocate for parents, expressing concerns or needs.
    • Facilitates and provides resources for families in regards to holiday activities and any other pertinent family functions.
    • Performs all other duties as assigned.
  • LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
    • Required Licenses and/or Certifications
      • None required.

      • None preferred.
  • MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
    • Required Education and Experience
      • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
      • One or more years of related experience working with the public required.
      • At time of hire, a record of completion for all education, licenses, training and/or certifications is required.
    • Preferred Education and Experience
      • Parent or family member of a child in the CHKD NICU whose hospitalization ended at least one year prior to employment preferred.
    • Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
      • Sound understanding of Family Centered Care.
      • Highly motivated, enthusiastic, and empathetic team player who takes initiative.
      • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
      • Excellent time management skills, able to shift priorities and able to work independently and problem solve in a fast paced, fluid environment.
      • Possesses strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills as well as, the ability to interact with and build collegial relationships with diverse individuals.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS
    • Normal patient care environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature and the like. Frequent exposure to communicable disease and moderately adverse working condition due to performance of certain patient care activities.
