Director of Engineering

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Director of Engineering in Netherlands.

This role sits at the heart of a fast-scaling, AI-native product organization, responsible for leading and shaping a major part of the engineering function focused on core product experience. You will oversee multiple engineering teams and leaders, ensuring they deliver high-quality, impactful user-facing experiences while maintaining strong technical foundations. Operating in a highly dynamic environment, you will define technical direction, guide architectural decisions, and ensure alignment between engineering execution and broader product strategy. A key part of your mission will be enabling teams to build and scale AI-powered capabilities, while also fostering a culture of ownership, speed, and engineering excellence. You will work closely with Product and Design leadership to translate strategic goals into clear, executable roadmaps. This is a high-impact leadership position in a distributed, global engineering organization where your decisions will directly influence product scalability and innovation. The environment is fast-moving, collaborative, and deeply focused on empowering builders and technical teams.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead and scale multiple engineering teams within the Core Experience organization, including management of Engineering Managers and senior engineers.
  • Define and drive technical strategy across a broad product area, ensuring alignment with company priorities and product vision.
  • Partner with Product and Design leadership to translate strategy into clear execution plans, priorities, and measurable outcomes.
  • Oversee delivery of high-quality, user-facing product experiences with a strong balance of speed, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Guide architectural decisions and ensure strong engineering standards across teams.
  • Support and shape the development of AI-native product capabilities, including LLM-powered features and workflows.
  • Foster a high-performance, ownership-driven engineering culture focused on growth, accountability, and impact.
  • Ensure clarity, alignment, and effective execution across distributed, cross-functional teams.
Requirements:
  • Proven experience leading multiple engineering teams and Engineering Managers in a high-growth SaaS or product-led environment.
  • Strong technical background with the ability to contribute to architecture discussions and technical strategy decisions.
  • Experience defining and executing technical roadmaps across large product areas.
  • Track record of coaching and developing engineering leaders and building high-performing teams.
  • Experience delivering user-facing product features in fast-paced environments.
  • Hands-on exposure to AI-native products or AI-powered product development.
  • Experience working in distributed, remote-first organizations across multiple geographies.
  • Strong execution mindset with the ability to balance quality, speed, and long-term scalability.
  • Experience in scaling organizations and navigating growth-stage challenges.
  • Strong product sense and ability to collaborate effectively with Product and Design teams.
  • Nice to have: experience with developer tools, workflow automation, TypeScript/Node.js, or open-source ecosystems.
