JOB SUMMARY

Manages general operation and administration of bus vehicle maintenance and related support activities using lean management principles and tools. Supervises daily activities of front line maintenance supervisors, technicians, contractors, and vendors in maintaining the fleet in a safe, reliable, clean, bus system – while controlling repair expenses, minimizing service failures, and minimizing number of vehicles out of service. Provides direction and oversight on employee training programs and fosters a climate of communication, cooperation, and respect. Manages job performance and development of bus maintenance supervisors and staff while providing guidelines and support which reflect a positive and professional image and the UTA Way. Coordinates daily with internal and external stakeholders to ensure great value is delivered on time and within budget. Manages day-to-day maintenance of the business unit bus vehicle fleet and or sustainability team to achieve established goals, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and objectives in support of high system reliability and vehicle maintenance. Works with state and federal agencies to ensure regulatory compliance. Assists UTA Supply Chain with specific material research and acquisition, including make vs. buy opportunities. Assists with development of State of Good Repair and fleet sustainability strategies.

EDUCATION/TRAINING:

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent vocational training in a maintenance related field with business related courses.
  • Thorough understanding and knowledge of principles and practices of diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of fleet vehicles and equipment, preventive maintenance practices, tools, shop diagnostics, and electrical equipment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience/training in lean management principles and tools in a union environment is preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of bus maintenance and repair practices may be required based on business need.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Four years direct supervisory experience managing fleet maintenance functions; managing budgets; supervising or conducting maintenance training; managing union relations (i.e. participating in grievance hearings and discipline reviews, interpreting contracts, administering and enforcing collective bargaining provisions, etc.); and administering OSHA, ISO, federal, and state safety regulations.
  • May require extensive experience in bus maintenance based on business need.
  • Must have demonstrated knowledge of vehicle or equipment technology (i.e. mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, electronic, software protocols, and computer architectures) and subsystems such as propulsion, braking, HVAC, door control systems, and communications.
  • Must have experience in vehicle maintenance practices such as predictive, preventive, and corrective practices with current knowledge of software diagnostics and test equipment/methods.

Pay Range: $57,900.00 or more, depending on experience
