About This Position
Are you a skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse who thrives in a fast-paced environment where communication, coordination, and clinical judgment matter every day? As our Admissions Nurse, you will play a vital role in assessing, coordinating, and guiding patients through the admissions process while partnering closely with internal teams, court systems, and community stakeholders to ensure safe, compliant, and timely transitions into care.
What You’ll Do
• Coordinate and manage admissions activities across
hospital units, aftercare facilities, and community-based sites.
• Communicate regularly with the courts, forensic coordinators, community case
managers, and facility leadership to support admission planning.
• Build and maintain professional relationships with state attorneys, public
defenders, court liaison offices, and community mental health partners.
• Participate in conference calls and community meetings to advocate for
patient needs and ensure clinical considerations are represented.
• Develop accurate admissions plans and conditional release plans in alignment
with hospital and governmental regulations.
• Maintain and update admissions tracking lists weekly to ensure accurate,
current information.
• Utilize strengths-based clinical approaches to engage and support diverse
patient populations.
• Administer Mantoux tuberculin tests (PPD) for all admissions, including
reading and documenting results.
• Maintain and update medical records in compliance with hospital, State DOC,
and accrediting agency standards.
• Support performance improvement initiatives focused on forensic populations
and service delivery enhancement.
• Assist on nursing units as needed during non-productive times to support
patient care operations.
• Track occupancy, discharges, and reconcile bed counts to maintain accurate
facility census data.
• Provide reporting on admission and discharge activity to Administration.
• Uphold compliance standards across risk management, infection control, and
safety protocols.
What We’re Looking For
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (preferred)
Experience:
• Two (2) years of experience working with individuals with severe and
persistent mental illness (required)
• Knowledge of the DSM and community resources (required)
• Three (3) years of experience working with court systems and personnel
(preferred)
License/Certifications:
• Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of
practice (required)
• Eligible through reciprocity if licensed in another state (required)
