About This Position

POSITION: 3D Modeling/Engineering Mentor

DEPARTMENT: Youth Services

REPORTS TO: Education Director/Teen Tech Coordinator/Mentor Coordinator

LOCATION: 168 Broome St New York NY 10002

SALARY: $30 - $35 Per Hour

SCHEDULE: 3:00pm – 6:30PM. Scheduling may vary due to closures. Some occasional special events will mean an opportunity for additional hours. This position is performance based and is also contingent on funding availability.

DATES: Starting February 2026

JOB SUMMARY: As a 3D Modeling/Engineering Mentor, you will guide our teens through some hands-on 3D modeling and engineering projects. You'll help them start with basic kits, like building speakers and creating custom casings and show them how to design and print their own versions. As part of our Youth Services Department’s vision: All Youth Services staff will assist in promoting growth, leadership, and positive self-image in all young people at all Grand Street Settlement sites.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma required; College Degree Preferred
  • Passion for Graphic Design and a life-long learner.
  • Experience mentoring or educating youth (especially teens 13-19)
  • Experience working with Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign), animation, and an overall a good eye for design and visual arts
  • A problem solver and creative thinker. Will come with new ideas and be ready to execute them.
  • Ideal candidate has previous experience with classroom instruction and/or facilitating lessons in their specialized fields
  • Candidate must be very responsible; organized & demonstrate positive communication skills
  • Ideal candidate is personable, energetic, & enthusiastic.
  • Candidate must successfully complete the following: NYSDOH Fingerprinting Screening; New York State Clearance Review Background Check.
  • Candidates must be able to communicate effectively with all members
  • Candidates must be able to motivate members while setting an example in all areas, including timeliness, attendance and most importantly, professionalism

ESSENTIAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES & OUTCOMES:

  • Guide teens in using TinkerCad and BambuLab printers and software to create functional, personalized projects.
  • Provide hands on mentorship at each step, ensuring all participants understand the goals and can progress confidently.
  • Encourage innovation by helping teens integrate design and engineering principles
  • Desired Outcomes:
  • Teens leave with tangible, high quality portfolio pieces and a strong grasp of 3D modeling and engineering skills.
  • They develop a mindset for continuous improvement and creative problem solving skills

  • Creating a supply list for required program supplies.
  • Responsible for supervising all participants particularly during activities
  • Ensuring safety of all participants.
  • Maintaining space, equipment, tools, and program supplies in an organized and clean fashion.
  • Reporting all incidents/ injuries/theft immediately to the Teen Tech Center Coordinator/ Mentor Coordinator
  • Assist with all aspects of programming (following organization’s mission, supervising all youth, working collectively, and communicating with all staff)
  • Take initiative to guide members through their projects.
  • Meet with Teen Tech Center Coordinator/ Mentor Coordinator to discuss progress and project updates.
  • Help reinforce all community agreements.
  • Other duties as assigned
