Position Summary
The Program Management Director serves as a senior program management expert responsible for guiding the successful execution of complex engineering and manufacturing programs for government and defense customers. In this role, the Director provides strategic program direction, drives cross‑functional alignment, and ensures programs meet schedule, cost, technical, and quality requirements—without direct people‑leadership responsibilities.
The Program Management Director is a key influencer and subject‑matter authority across the full product lifecycle, championing program performance, customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement while partnering closely with Operations, Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Finance, Contracts, and Executive Leadership.
Responsibilities
- Oversee planning, execution, and performance of all active programs, ensuring schedule adherence, cost control, quality, and customer satisfaction.
- Drive operational readiness, risk mitigation, and resource planning across engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, quality, and contracts.
- Lead program reviews, performance reporting, and communication with internal leadership and customers.
- Partner with engineering and manufacturing to define program plans, production strategies, build schedules, and technical milestones.
- Ensure alignment between program requirements and operational capabilities, escalating challenges and driving solutions proactively.
- Manage program budgets, forecasts, and Earned Value Management (EVM) where applicable.
- Oversee contract changes, scope management, configuration control, and delivery commitments.
- Implement best practices for program management processes, tools, metrics, and cross functional workflows.
- Develop and mentor a high performing program management team, build strong leadership capability and customer-focused execution.
- Support new business proposals by providing operational input to schedules, staffing, risk, cost, and execution plans.
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
Requirements
- Proven experience leading large, cross functional teams and managing multiple concurrent programs.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing operations, engineering development, supply chain, and quality processes.
Skills
- Experience with government contracting, including FAR/DFARS, EVM, and formal program reporting.
- Excellent communication, customer interface, and leadership skills.
- Ability to drive execution, resolve operational issues, and manage risk in fastpaced, technical environments.
Experience
- 12 – 15+ years of experience in program or operations management within a government contracting, aerospace, defense, or complex manufacturing environment.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Business, Operations, or related field; master’s preferred.
