Accountabilities

In this role, you will independently manage complex professional liability claims with an emphasis on legal malpractice exposures, ensuring accurate evaluation, strong documentation, and effective resolution strategies across all files. You will handle end-to-end claim lifecycle activities, from investigation through litigation management and settlement negotiations.

  • Identify exposures, evaluate coverage issues, and ensure timely and accurate reserving practices
  • Conduct thorough, independent investigations using internal systems and external resources such as legal databases, PACER, and subject matter experts
  • Manage litigation strategy, including counsel selection, budgeting, case planning, and ongoing coordination with legal partners
  • Negotiate claim resolutions effectively while maintaining strong internal and external relationships
  • Communicate claim exposures, risks, and recommendations clearly to stakeholders at all levels
  • Develop and execute resolution strategies designed to achieve optimal claim outcomes
  • Travel periodically to attend mediations, trials, and related legal proceedings
  • Perform additional duties as needed to support claims operations
Requirements

This position requires extensive experience in professional liability claims handling, strong legal and technical knowledge, and the ability to manage complex, high-value cases in a fast-moving environment. The ideal candidate is analytical, confident in negotiation, and skilled at influencing outcomes while maintaining strong professional relationships.

  • 7+ years of experience handling professional liability claims, preferably including legal malpractice matters
  • Strong technical claims expertise and solid understanding of legal principles and coverage analysis
  • Proficiency with digital/paperless claims management systems and strong computer literacy
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex issues clearly
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills, with the ability to drive resolution without damaging relationships
  • Ability to adapt quickly to shifting priorities and manage multiple complex files simultaneously
  • Strong time management and organizational skills in a high-volume environment
  • JD, CPCU, or RPLU designation preferred but not required
