PAY RANGE:
$77,000 - $87,000 / Annually
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Director of Development Services is responsible for providing strategic leadership as well as long- and short-term planning for development operations, gift processing, data management, reporting, analytics, data presentation, system configuration, data integrity, intra- and inter-departmental communications, project management, budget tracking, and related activities. This role sets the direction for operational functions within the Development Department. Working cross-departmentally, they ensure a strong infrastructure that assists in the ongoing success of the development department in its mission to maximize philanthropy and build relationships for the YMCA of Honolulu.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Works within the Development team to craft and oversee data strategy and support for all fundraising and donor programs, including annual giving, major gifts, and major campaigns.
- Serves as Development’s liaison to other departments and branches related to data, gift processing, and fundraising reports. Examples include but are not limited to:
- Acts as the primary liaison with the Accounting Department to ensure coding, entry, and supporting reports are accurate and timely.
- Works directly with the Accounting Department on revenue reconciliations and other reporting issues.
- Works directly with Marketing to provide mailing lists and counts.
- Works with branches to ensure they have what they need to support their fundraising and stewardship work.
- Addresses donor inquiries such as tax receipt information and donation instructions.
- Partners with internal teams to help inform and streamline reports, analyses, modeling, and benchmarking. Assesses the relationship between output requirements and data elements and recommends best practices to facilitate effective and efficient reporting.
- Ensures consistent and formal systems training procedures are documented, implemented, and routinely reviewed and updated. Provides cross-training to team members to ensure adequate coverage, accurate and consistent information, and timeliness.
- Proactively seeks out and identifies opportunities for operational efficiencies and improvements, plans and conducts improvements under the direction of the Vice President of Development.
- Maintains the integrity of the database by creating and enforcing policies and procedures for data entry, campaigns, and backend coding structures.
- Completes the setup and maintenance of annual campaigns, funds, and appeals in Raiser’s Edge.
- Conducts weekly, monthly, and annual projections and fundraising revenue actuals.
- Manages the Data Information Specialist, training and overseeing them in tasks such as:
- Completing acknowledgment letters in Raiser’s Edge.
- Preparing reports, dashboards, mailing lists, and materials.
- Responding to donor inquiries.
- Managing incoming donations and transaction processing.
- Assisting with month-end reconciliation.

- Attends required staff meetings, staff training, and other required events.
- Complies with the YMCA and State of Hawaii abuse reporting requirements.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum 18 years of age
- Understanding of the YMCA of Honolulu’s mission and dedication to advancing it
- Skills/Knowledge:
- Excellent verbal, written, and oral communication, including ease with presenting data and translating high-level concepts across a variety of skill levels.
- Ability to take a sensitive and discreet approach to highly confidential information.
- Honesty, integrity, enthusiasm, perspective, and a strong work ethic supported by commitment and follow-through.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to develop and interpret reports and dashboards to inform decision-making.
- Excellent project management skills.
- Ability to translate precise technical issues into simple, actionable processes with non-technical colleagues, and vice versa.
- Collaborative approach and sound judgment in working across teams to collectively manage development solutions within the broader context of the YMCA’s organization-wide technology systems (e.g., donor database, accounting software, membership database, and communications tools).
- Effective approach to partnering with solutions vendors to understand, develop, and resolve issues with and between systems.
- Education/Training:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Supervisory experience and talent for mentoring and empowering staff toward excellence.
- Three to five years of experience working with a CRM, preferably Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Three to five years of experience with donor data systems and fundraising, with a focus on data, systems, and data processing aspects.
