POSITION SUMMARY

The Design Manager is responsible to develop, maintain, and accurately informing the EQUIP Project Manager of the overall status for drawing deliverables, schedule, coordination and quality of equipment drawings during the design and construction phases. This role ensures the BIM team is on schedule, coordinates change management with the planning, design and construction teams. The Design Manager may be the primary day-to-day contact for the Owner and the design team for coordination.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for managing the design coordination process and coordination/drawing deliverables.
  • Supports EQUIP Project Director in development of staffing plans.
  • Identify design critical decisions and mitigate design risks.
  • Seek improvement opportunities, quality assurance and quality control throughout the planning and design phases.
  • Leverage experience and knowledge to help identify solutions to project-specific challenges; and inform schedules and deliverables.
  • Support EQUIP Integrated Design Director to review and monitor project health metrics via the quality dashboard.
  • Assign staff responsibilities; develop and maintain member responsibilities, identifying all contractual and internal requirements. Identify project staff roles and responsibilities to provide clarity to meet these obligations.
  • Lead project staff development, identify opportunities for improvement and provide training to ensure each team member develops to their fullest potential. Communicate ongoing performance feedback to project staff.
  • Collaborate with EQUIP Project Manager to develop the overall project responsibility matrix and assist the project team to identify gaps.
  • Collaborate with EQUIP Project Manager to develop and monitor expectations for schedule, quality, and content of design document delivery.
  • Support Design Manager preparing Profit Projections during constructability reviews efforts.
  • Knowledgeable on applicable building codes and regulations to assist in code compliance during design delivery.
  • Contribute to the EQUIP business unit strategy and support the goals and objectives outlined in the EQUIP business plan.
  • Maintain proactive communication with design and construction teams regarding equipment changes.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the McCarthy/Owner contract and any other aspects of the business deal.
  • Acquainted with project design document packaging strategies.
  • Ensures communication is active between EQUIP BIM Manager and VDC Manager to develop and implement EQUIP project-specific BIM execution plans.
  • Ensure EQUIP BIM Manager schedules EQUIP BIM kick off meeting.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, Biomedical/Clinical Engineering, Healthcare Management preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 7+ years of experience managing and coordinating drawings and design disciplines in commercial, healthcare, science and technology, education, water, or industrial projects.
  • 7+ Years of experience working in California and knowledge of HCAI regulations required if managing projects in California.
  • Knowledge of construction principles and practices, and the phases of planning, design, and construction.
  • Experience leading successful project teams, including development of employee and maintaining relationships with project staff and internal/external entities
  • Excellent communication, organizational, team management, problem solving, motivational skills
  • Ability to manage numerous project demands simultaneously, prioritize work and delegate tasks to team
  • Ability to work with multiple shared service teams preferred business development, marketing, operations, preconstruction, scheduling, quality, safety, virtual design and construction (VDC), learning and development, EQUIP, and mapping.
  • Candidates must be willing to travel construction projects within the United States up to 30% of the time.
  • Self-motivated, self-starter, and ability to work with project teams to balance project constraints and McCarthy policies and procedures.
  • Must have excellent communication, organizational, decision-making, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Responsive and timely support of project team needs.
  • Strategic minded and detail oriented.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, BlueBeam, Teams, Zoom, AutoCAD, Revit, Autodesk, Revizto, Bluebeam preferred.
  • Demonstrate behaviors consistent with McCarthy core values (Genuine, We, Not I and All In) while maintaining a value added approach to Quality.
  • Good understanding of the technical aspects of building systems.
