JOB SUMMARY:
Summer Day Camp Director represents and maintains the standards of the Recreation Department by coordinating all aspects of the Summer Day Camp program. Park City is looking for a qualified, detail-oriented individual with strong organizational skills who enjoys working with children. Responsibilities include hiring, training, and supervision of staff, camper registration and supervision, and scheduling day-to-day activities and field trips. This is a full-time seasonal position, 40 hours per week, for the summer season from approximately middle of April to the end of September; Summer camp dates are June – August.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
- Plans and organizes daily operations of the camp, including determining where, when, and how activities will be held using cost-effective planning.
- Hires, trains, and directs staff of Camp Counselors. Responsible for cost-effective scheduling of staff.
- Inventories, purchases, and allocates supplies.
- Coordinates participant registration, including all appropriate paperwork, proper payments, permission slips, and medical release forms.
- Coordinates and completes requirements for maintaining Utah State Childcare License, including background checks, training logs, participant logs, emergency, and medical forms, etc.
- Prepares for daily events by setting up on-site activities, reviewing staff schedule and registering children.
- Creates bi-weekly calendar of events.
- Accountable for safety and well-being of campers. Establishes relationships with parents and makes every effort to meet any reasonable parental requests.
- Organizes and coordinates all aspects of field trips, including transportation, site reservations, and payment. Acts as counselor on field trips.
- Establishes rapport with appropriate City departments and staff to effectively operate the Summer Day Camp program. Examples include the Finance, Building Maintenance, and IT departments.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must have completed coursework in childhood development, elementary education, or a related field.
- Must be able to maintain childcare director license (with assistance from employer on-site).
- Van Driver Certification (or ability to obtain; provided on-site by employer).
- CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification (or ability to obtain; provided on-site by employer).
