About This Position
Job Summary:
The Deputy Medical Director is responsible for providing professional medical services in collaboration with the Medical Director to ensure compliance The Deputy Medical Director will act as a substitute for the Medical Director in their absence and support the ongoing quality and operational needs.

Key Responsibilities:Medical Services and Collaboration:
Provide professional services in partnership with the Medical Director.
In the absence of the Medical Director, the Deputy Medical Director shall assume the duties and responsibilities of the Medical Director, including but not limited to the development and authorization of medical protocols and oversight of staff.
Emergency Medical Services Meetings:
Attend quarterly scheduled meetings, addressing patient care, quality, Paramedic and EMT training requirements, and equipment availability.
Assist in discussions concerning protocols, training, and quality assurance practices.
Quality Assurance and Improvement:
Assist in the development and implementation of a quality assurance program, reviewing patient outcome data from local hospitals and evaluating medical reports for correctness.
Participate in regular Quality Assurance meetings with Dispatch personnel and review training content for medical accuracy.
Training and Development:
Direct Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) classes and other required medical training, ensuring that personnel maintain industry standards of care.
Evaluate and approve training content upon request, ensuring medical correctness.
Assist in organizing additional training sessions as necessary to meet community and care standards.
Protocol Development and Supervision:
Develop, review, and authorize the use of Advanced Life Support (ALS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) protocols for the management of medical emergencies.
Ensure protocols are up to date and aligned with statutory requirements.
Supervise and be responsible for the medical performance of all EMTs and paramedics operating.
Consultation and Coordination:
Serve as a medical consultant during public health emergencies, disasters, or mass medical events, working closely with the Public Health Director.
Provide consultation to the Director of Emergency Management during activations of the County’s Emergency Operations Center or during other emergencies.
Supervision and Compliance:
Ensure that all medical protocols and quality assurance programs are in compliance.
Assist in supervising the recertification and ongoing training of EMTs and Paramedics.
Media Communication:
Obtain prior approval from the County Manager or designee before any COUNTY communication with the media related to medical practices or protocols.
Education & Experience:
Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution.
Board certification in Emergency Medicine or other relevant medical specialties preferred.
Proven experience in a clinical or medical leadership role, with a background in emergency medical services.
Licensing:
Current and valid medical license to practice in the State of Florida.
Must possess DEA License.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Instructor level certification or equivalent.
Provider or Instructor level certifications in Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS), International Trauma Life Support (ITLS), Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals (PEPP), or Emergency Pediatric Care (EPC).
