In support of this mission, we operate an in-house LCMS that is used for PFAS analysis to support internal R&D experiments and also treatability projects for external clients. We are looking for a self-starter and collaboratively inclined scientist to operate the LCMS, be responsible for the generation of PFAS results, and partner with our R&D team to interpret results and leverage them to prove or improve our treatment process. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the daily schedule of samples is organized and processed on time. This position expects that the candidate is fully fluent in running the on-site LCMS, including sample preparation, loading samples into the machine, analysis, data analysis & interpretation, QA/QC review, and reporting. The LCMS operator is also responsible for component changes and regular trouble shooting and repair. In addition, the expectation is that the candidate has a strong base level understanding of the chemistry in use and will be able to recognize issues and work with the NuQuatics R&D team to resolve in a responsive way. Due to the nature of the R&D efforts, there will be times where the candidate will be expected to resolve issues that do not have a SOP already in place.

The successful candidate will have several years’ experience working with an environmental testing lab or a directly similar work experience. A working knowledge of NELAP standards and test requirements will be critical to ensure that the samples put out by the lab follow appropriate guidelines.

Due to the nature of the job, this position will require a candidate that is comfortable working independently. While there will be job training that is specific to NuQuatic, the ideal candidate is expected to already be comfortable with the standard use of the equipment. The opportunity exists for the successful candidate to supervise others in the value chain as sample volume increases.

Ideal Candidate Education and Experience Requirement:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or a related field
  • Minimum 5 years of total experience. At least 3 years of hands-on experience with LCMS.
  • Solid foundational knowledge in the types of chemistry for both LC and MS, including but not limited to understanding other types of columns and their separation characteristics as well as electrospray ionization concepts and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with analytical data management software used to control the LCMS and interpret data
  • Strong Microsoft Excel data management, presentation, and interpretation skills
  • Effective communication skills are a must, and the candidate must be able to report daily with concise documentation (including SOP development and documentation).
  • Ability to think critically when evaluating data, and make sound decisions
  • Self-motivated, proactive, organized and detail-oriented.
  • Sound awareness of time management and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with NELAP practices
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and perform sample processing and analysis.
  • Manage data analysis & interpretation and report writing.
  • Perform routine maintenance on the LCMS system and troubleshoot issues effectively.
  • Actively communicate issues and deviations that occur with our equipment or in our process.
  • Leverage the analytical data management software to process samples on daily basis.
  • Ensure data from the sample analysis is reported in a timely manner and that the results provided are of high integrity.
  • Create documentation as needed for the smooth operation of daily tasks such as SOP’s and task lists.
  • Utilize NELAP practices and ensure that they are correctly documented.
  • Collaborate closely with the R&D team in interpreting LCMS results and its implications on our treatment efficacy and continuous improvement efforts

Salary is negotiable and dependent upon relevant experience.
