What you’ll do:
Customers Bank is seeking a highly analytical, detail-oriented, and adaptable Deputy CISO to support the strategic objectives of the Information Security Department. The Deputy CISO serves as a senior leader within the Information Security organization, responsible for supporting the CISO in defining, executing, and operationalizing the enterprise cybersecurity strategy. This role provides day-to-day leadership across security operations, governance, risk, and compliance functions while ensuring alignment with broader technology and business objectives.
A critical component of this role is close partnership with IT leadership. The Deputy CISO will act as a primary liaison to IT executives and domain leads to track, govern, and drive execution of Information Security–governed initiatives, projects, and remediation activities. In this role, you will partner closely with infrastructure, business areas, and cross-functional teams to define security requirements, strengthen controls, and enhance governance and oversight of critical IS vendors.
Responsibility:
Strategic Leadership & Execution
- Support the CISO in developing and executing the enterprise information security strategy and roadmap.
- Translate strategic security objectives into actionable operational plans and measurable outcomes.
- Serve as acting CISO when required.
Security Governance & Oversight
- Oversee implementation and adherence to security policies, standards, and control frameworks.
- Ensure alignment with regulatory, audit, and compliance requirements.
- Drive continuous improvement of the Information Security governance model.
IT Partnership & Program Tracking (Core Focus Area)
- Serve as a senior liaison between Information Security and IT leadership (Infrastructure, Engineering, Applications, Cloud, Data, Architecture, Network security, AI etc.).
- Work with IT in implementing hardening standards for appropriate Bank used technologies
- Establish and maintain governance mechanisms to track Information Security–governed projects, remediation items, and control enhancements.
- Monitor execution of security-related IT initiatives, ensuring milestones, dependencies, and risk mitigation plans are clearly defined and tracked.
- Facilitate executive-level reporting on project status, risk posture, and control maturity.
- Escalate delivery risks or control gaps to the CISO and appropriate executive stakeholders.
- Partner with IT leaders to embed security-by-design principles into project lifecycles and technology implementations.
Operational Oversight
- Provide executive oversight of Security Architecture, Security Operations, Incident Response, Identity Governance, Business Continuity and Technology Risk /GRC functions.
- Ensure timely remediation of identified risk issues and audit findings.
- Oversee major incident management from a security leadership perspective.
Risk Management & Reporting
- Drive enterprise cyber risk assessments and risk quantification efforts.
- Present risk posture, key metrics, and program updates to executive leadership and governance committees.
- Support board-level reporting as required by CISO.
Talent & Organizational Leadership
- Mentor and develop senior security leaders and high-potential team members.
- Promote a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement.
- Support workforce planning and succession planning within the security organization.
Must haves:
- 10+ years of progressive experience in information security, cybersecurity, or technology risk leadership roles.
- Demonstrated experience partnering with senior IT leadership and overseeing cross-functional technology initiatives.
- Strong knowledge of security frameworks (e.g., NIST CSF, ISO 27001, CIS Controls, SOX) and regulatory environments.
- Experience managing enterprise security operations and governance programs.
- Executive-level communication and presentation skills.
Nice to haves:
- Experience in financial services or other regulated industries.
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Security, Computer Science, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or CRISC strongly preferred.
