About This Position
Description:
Under the direct supervision of the Dietary Manager, the Dietary Aide assists with food preparation, meal service, and the cleaning and maintenance of the kitchen and dining areas.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation and serving of meals and snacks in accordance with established portion control procedures.
- Clean and sanitize work areas, equipment, floors, dishes, and utensils.
- Distribute menus and verify meal trays for accuracy, including menu selections and prescribed diet requirements.
- Ensure proper storage and handling of food and supplies in compliance with safety standards.
- Follow Universal Precautions and all sanitary, safety, and infection control policies and procedures.
- Understand, comply with, and promote all rules regarding residents’ rights.
- Ensure adequate food and supplies are available for upcoming meals; assist with inventory control and proper storage of incoming items.
- Attend and actively participate in training sessions, educational activities, and staff meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Experience in a healthcare food service setting preferred, long-term care experience a plus.
- Must be able to interact positively with residents, families, and regulatory agencies, and work collaboratively with employees at all levels.
- Must be able to maintain consistent attendance and be willing to work long or irregular hours, often under pressure.
- Must comply with all local health regulations and successfully complete a post-offer health assessment.
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Physical and Sensory Requirements (with or without the use of mechanical devices):
- Ability to read, write, and speak fluent English to communicate effectively with residents, families, staff, and community agencies.
- Ability to perform physical activities such as walking, reaching, bending, stretching, pulling, and lifting.
- Adequate fine and gross motor coordination to carry out required tasks.
Work Environment:
- Long-term care facility setting.
- Exposure to residents with varying levels of care needs.
- May include evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts.
