Yellowstone Club’s Golf Maintenance department is currently seeking candidates for a Assistant Golf Course Superintendent. This is a full-time year-round position located in Big Sky, Montana.
Position Summary:
Under direction and guidance from the Director of Agronomy and Golf Course Superintendent, the Assistant Superintendent manages and participates in the general maintenance of the golf course and associated facilities related to the Club, including pumping stations, practice facilities, maintenance facility, an outdoor ice rink and winter trail grooming. Responsibilities include employee hiring, training, scheduling, and recordkeeping, delegating work assignments, and overseeing job performance. Assists in contractor oversight and coordination.
The Assistant Superintendent collaborates closely with the management team to coordinate staff and daily operations, ensuring the Yellowstone Club is maintained to the highest possible standards. This role requires a commitment to mastering the skills and ongoing education essential for excellence in the turfgrass industry. The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent may also assume the responsibilities of the Director of Agronomy or Superintendent in their absence.
Essential Job Functions:

• Hiring, training, daily scheduling and supervision of seasonal maintenance staff, including the management of employee’s time and payroll.
• Oversees the completion of work assignments by crew members and assists with field decisions regarding job procedures, work standards, and safe, yet efficient machinery use.
• Constant monitoring of turfgrass systems during the growing season both visually and through the use of a POGO, ensuring proper water, nutrient, and disease prevention levels.
• Operation and maintenance of pumping and irrigation systems - including program scheduling, assisting in repairs and winterization.
• Communicating regularly with other members of the organization's management team to discuss course conditions, events, goals and member input.
• Monitor and participate in the calibration and application of fertilizers and pesticides; responsibilities include training, mixing procedures and proper application of spray solutions to all areas of the golf course, based on the program outlined by the Director of Agronomy.
• Daily recordkeeping of staff activities through Tasktracker software, logging employee issues in ADP, weather data, cultural practices and irrigation use.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
• Daily supervision of the seasonal maintenance staff and interns, ensuring proper and safe use of maintenance facility and equipment; assist in personnel management and evaluation. The Assistant Superintendent must be a highly organized and motivated individual, willing to work long hours in variable weather conditions, weekends, holidays and on emergency calls as needed.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
• Open the maintenance facility and runs operations in the absence of Superintendent.
• Perform all duties and responsibilities in a timely and efficient manner in accordance with established Club policies, procedures, and standards of service to achieve the overall objectives of this position.

• Maintain a positive and respectful attitude.
• Treat Members, guests, vendors, customers and co-workers with professionalism and respect at all times.

• Must be able to work flexible work hours/schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays. Long hours may be required due to business demands.
• Performs other related duties as required and assigned by Superintendent.
• Responsible for various tasks during winter months including property snow removal and other Club assistance as directed by Superintendent.

Experience/Education Required
• Minimum 3 years’ experience as Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent, plus 2- or 4-year degree in turfgrass-related field required.
• Experience in all phases of golf course management and turf culture, along with a working knowledge of course renovation and construction, preferred.
• The ideal candidate should be pursuing a career in golf course management, possess strong organizational abilities, and be highly detail oriented.
• It is expected that the candidate will bring a positive attitude and new ideas to a well-functioning operation.

Certificates & Licenses
• Candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a valid State of Montana non-commercial pesticide applicator’s license within 90 days of starting.
• Requires a valid driver’s license, and an acceptable driving record as approved by the Club’s insurance carrier.
Computer Skills
• They must demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills, along with solid computer proficiency.
• Strong computer proficiency required
Language Ability
• Able to speak clearly and effectively with members, guests, and coworkers
• Able to write clearly and professionally
Math Ability
• Able to perform basic math calculations.
Reasoning Ability
• Requires a high degree of administrative and leadership ability, especially in terms of problem solving and decision making
Work Environment
