About This Position
VEHICLE OPERATOR
Salary Grade: 3
Starting Rate: $16.24/hour
Shift Available: On-Call/Occasional (Non-Exempt)
Summary of Job Functions:
• Transports ambulatory and non-ambulatory passengers in County vehicles in a safe, reliable, and timely manner.
• Assists passengers in boarding and disembarking County vehicles from door to door.
• Interacts professionally and cheerfully with passengers.
• Follows logical, efficient, and direct transportation routes according to “Ecolane” operating device.
• Ensures that any required fares/fees are collected, and receipts distributed to appropriate passengers.
• Observes all traffic laws.
• Provides information for periodic surveys as requested.
• Maintains order and discipline in the vehicles.
• Operates radio communication in a professional manner.
• Performs pre and post trip walks around the vehicle assigned that day to ensure safety and assist in maintenance of vehicle.
• Maintains daily record sheets as required.
• Participates in training as provided.
• Assists in training new Vehicle Operators.
• Performs general maintenance on vehicles such as, but not limited to, checking on fluids, and air pressure in tires.
• Assures that the vehicle assigned to them is clean.
• Assists other Vehicle Operators in completing their tasks if they cannot do them due to unforeseen circumstances.
• Performs other job-related duties as required.
Minimum Training and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent, plus valid Pennsylvania driver’s license. No formal work experience required, one to two (1-2) years’ experience with the elderly and/or disabled population preferred. Must have a safe driving record. Must possess a valid Pennsylvania driver's license and a willingness to travel as needed.
