SEASONAL HORTICULTURIST ASSISTANT, WOODY PLANT NURSERY at Longwood Gardens – Kennett Square, Pennsylvania

Longwood Gardens is seeking a seasonal Horticulturist Assistant to support our Woody Nursery team from May through September. This individual will perform a variety of tasks under the direction of our experienced Horticulturists. Responsibilities include:

• Staking, mulching, pruning, potting, transplanting, digging, watering, fertilizing, soil mixing, irrigation maintenance, and assisting with the upkeep and cleanliness of work areas
• Grooming of plants as they are prepared for displays throughout the Gardens
• Assisting with transporting plants to and from growing areas, which involves occasionally working around trucks, lift gates, forklifts, and utility vehicles

Requirements for this position include:

• The ability to work as part of a team and independently
• The ability to perform manual, repetitive tasks independently
• The ability to work outside in varying weather conditions
• The ability to lift at least 50 pounds
• The ability to sit, stand, and walk for long periods
• The ability to carry items as needed for tasks
• Prior horticultural experience and/or knowledge preferred but not required
• A valid driver’s license

This position will be Monday-Friday, starting each day at 6:30AM with an average of 40 hours per week.
