Under general supervision of the MRI Lead Technologist, performs MRI scanning to produce quality magnetic resonance images to assist physicians the radiologist in the diagnosis of and/or disease for patients of all ages. Performs related clerical and service duties. Possess the knowledge of procedures, protocols, and policies related to the MRI and Diagnostic Imaging departments. Performs these duties using independent judgement, ingenuity, and initiative. This position requires a higher level of technical and informatics knowledge and skill, and the ability to work in close cooperation with members of a team of physicians, nurses and other technical staff.

I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Obtains and records appropriate patient clinical information and/or history; verifies physicians' orders and reviews the results of relevant laboratory tests; makes a psychological and physical assessment of each patient, making adjustments in the standard imaging procedures and techniques to accommodate patient size, age, or condition, using universal protocol. Consistently screens patients, obtains any necessary implant/device documentation, and follows MRI safety guidelines to ensure patient safety throughout the scanning process.
2. Assists, transfers, and positions patients as needed, ensuring their modesty and physical safety. Selects and inputs protocol parameters and/or instructions; and monitors computer function during performance of the examination.
3. Performs venipuncture as needed applying aseptic technique, and prepares oral and intravenous contrast media for administration to patient; administers and/or inject sufficient contrast media to produce images. Processes images to ensure quality and accuracy. Accurately documents work in HIS/RIS/PACS systems.
4. Checks operation of equipment; sees that daily QC is completed, Maintains cleanliness of tables and equipment to prevent cross contamination of contagious diseases, keeps room well stocked with linen and necessary supplies.
5. Keeps up to date with changes in the field of MRI by in service study, attending courses or seminars as necessary and/or recommended, or participating in professional organizations.
6. Prepares daily schedules and ensures appropriate protocols are obtained from Radiologists.
7. Assists in other areas/modalities as needed.

II. Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:
Required:
1. Level of knowledge equivalent to that acquired through completion of an Associate’s Degree in Radiologic Technology.
2. Registration or registry eligible by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
3. Advanced certification in MR by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) with 90 days of employment
4. BLS Certification required

Experience/Skills:
Preferred:
1. Experience preferred, but not required.

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.

Department-specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.
