Overview
General Dynamics Electric Boat is seeking to hire Material Expeditors in order to support meeting the needs of company growth driven by the Columbia Class Submarine Program. The Material Expeditors will be responsible for assisting trade departments as well as Production Control Planning in the pickup and delivery of time sensitive shipboard as well as non-shipboard material to the South Yard Assembly Building. The Material Expeditors will also assist the Material Handlers within the South Yard Assembly Building with logistical trade support as required.
The selected individuals must have a strong work ethic, be detail oriented and possess a background of having worked in a fast-paced, dynamic industrial environment. A background of working with Electric Boat business systems such as Electronic Desktop, Electronic Work Package (EWP), and an understanding of material control policies, procedures and best practices utilized within the Groton Shipyard is a plus.
Responsibilities:
- Pickup of time sensitive shipboard and non-shipboard material from within Groton Shipyard and delivery to trades within the South Yard Assembly Building
- Coordinating deliveries and ship-out of material to/from the South Yard Assembly Building with transportation departments
- Receipt of incoming material, verification and documentation of material markings
- Inventory and storage of material within the South Yard Assembly Building material buffers locations
- Removal of combustible materials such as pallets and other shipping materials from within the South Yard Assembly Building
Qualifications:
- Ability to physically lift parts and material weighing up to 40 pounds as well as push or pull pallet trucks and carts
- Ability follow written instructions and procedures and pay attention to details, including verbatim transcription of material identification markings
- Should be able to work independently and as part of a team
- Must be able to use hand and portable power tools
Responsibilities
- Ability to adapt to challenges while remaining calm in a constantly changing working environment, all while remaining compliant to technical and procedural constraints
- Being detail oriented
- A team attitude and be willing and capable to work well with other team members and other organizations
- The use of light moving equipment, pallet jacks, walker stackers, hand trucks including obtaining a forklift certification
- Experience with the marking of and protection of shipboard/non-shipboard material
- Ability to perform verbatim recording and transcription of material markings
Qualifications
Required:
- High school graduate or GED
- 0-5 years of relevant experience
Preferred:
- Experience working with Electric Boat business systems such as EWP and Electronic Desktop and Oracle
- Background in the handling and protection of Special Emphasis (SEP) and Level 1 material
- Competence in blueprint reading
