Position Summary
The Maintenance Operator is a high-level technical role focused on the mechanical repair and preventative maintenance of the feed mill and its fleet. This position serves as the primary lead for Mill Maintenance Oversight, ensuring all plant machinery is serviced and safe. While this role performs actual mechanical repairs on all wheeled equipment and assists with production and delivery, it functions as a supportive partner to those departments rather than a supervisor.
Mill Maintenance Management & Oversight
· Maintenance Leadership: Directly manage and build the facility’s preventive maintenance (PM) program. You are responsible for scheduling all PM tasks and coordinating with operators to ensure machinery is serviced with minimal production impact.
· Facility Repairs: Troubleshoot and perform mechanical repairs on all plant equipment, including grinders, mixers, conveyors, and elevators.
· Safety Documentation: Will assist in writing and managing SOPs and safety procedures for Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and Confined Space entry.
Wheeled Equipment & Fleet Mechanical Repairs
· Hands-on Repairs: Perform mechanical repairs on company trucks and all wheeled equipment (forklifts, loaders, trailers, and other rolling stock).
· System Troubleshooting: Execute technical repairs involving electrical systems, hydraulics, engines, and drivetrain components for the entire fleet.
· Emergency Repairs: Help the Fleet manager respond to and resolve mechanical breakdowns of wheeled equipment to ensure minimal disruption to delivery and mill operations.
Cleaning & Sanitation Responsibilities
· Mill Housekeeping: Perform daily cleaning duties throughout all areas of the feed mill, including dust mitigation, bin cleaning, and maintaining general orderliness of the facility.
· Biosecurity: Follow strict cleaning protocols within the facility to ensure the safety and integrity of all manufactured feed products.
Collaborative Operations (Support Role)
· Production & Delivery Support: Assist Mill Operators and Drivers as needed with receiving, batching, loadout, and feed delivery. In these areas, you provide labor and operational support to the respective teams.
· Inventory: Support the team with daily ingredient counts and month-end inventory reconciliations.
Qualifications & Physical Demands
· Skills & Experience:
o Strong mechanical aptitude is required.
o Previous experience in a Feed Mill or manufacturing environment is preferred.
o Proven experience in heavy equipment, automotive, or diesel repair is preferred.
· Licensing: Class A CDL is required, or the candidate must be willing and able to acquire one. (The company may be willing to sponsor training for the right individual. Must be insurable to drive company vehicles.
· Physical Ability: Must be able to lift 50 lbs, climb ladders to 15-foot heights, and work in tight or awkward spaces (over, under, and around machinery).
· Environment: Ability to work in dusty environments and outdoor conditions including extreme cold, mud, and snow.
Schedule & Benefits
· Standard Schedule: 5:00 AM – 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
· Flexibility: Hours are fluid and will vary based on workload, weather, and Holidays. Possible Saturdays may be required based on mill demand.
