About This Position

Description:

The Construction Project Manager supports the administrative, regulatory, and compliance requirements for building renovations, property acquisitions, and new construction projects across Janus of Santa Cruz. This role oversees projects through the full lifecycle—from entitlement and permitting through construction closeout—ensuring timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met.

The ideal candidate is highly knowledgeable in city and county building codes, permitting processes, and environmental regulations, and is comfortable independently navigating complex regulatory environments. Success in this role requires strong construction literacy, persistence, attention to detail, and the ability to build effective working relationships with public agencies, consultants, contractors, and internal stakeholders. Experience working with multi-site healthcare or human services organizations is strongly preferred.

This position will oversee several existing and new facilities in Santa Cruz County including prefabricated spaces for commercial usage.

Key Responsibilities

Project Planning & Oversight

  • Co-plan all phases of the construction lifecycle—from initiation through completion—in collaboration with Executive Leadership
  • Ensure projects are executed in alignment with approved plans, budgets, timelines, and quality standards
  • Develop, monitor, and adhere to project budgets, schedules, and quality control plans

Compliance & Permitting

  • Obtain and manage all required entitlements, permits, and regulatory approvals
  • Ensure full compliance with local, state, and federal building codes, regulations, and safety requirements
  • Navigate environmental regulations and jurisdictional requirements effectively

Collaboration & Communication

  • Serve as a primary liaison with city and county leadership, planning departments, and regulatory agencies
  • Work closely with architects, engineers, contractors, builders, and real estate attorneys to move projects forward and resolve obstacles
  • Communicate project status, risks, and progress updates to Executive Leadership and other stakeholders

Execution & Documentation

  • Use scheduling and project management software to track progress and document project milestones
  • Contribute to testing and inspection logs, quality assurance reports, and punch lists as requested
  • Support Facilities in ordering and coordinating necessary supplies, tools, and equipment
  • Maintain complete and accurate project documentation through all phases of construction

Relationship Management

  • Build and sustain strong relationships with clients, contractors, consultants, and construction teams
  • Demonstrate diplomatic, tactful, and professional communication in all interactions
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong understanding of construction processes, terminology, and regulatory requirements
  • Exceptional organizational, time-management, problem-solving, and budgeting skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with persistence and attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • High level of follow-through and accountability

Requirements: Education & Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction science and management, engineering, architecture, business administration, or a related field
  • Minimum of five (5) years of construction project management or closely related experience
  • OSHA 30-Hour Outreach Training (must be completed within 60 days of hire)
  • Construction Project Management certification is desirable but not required
