About This Position

Job Purpose:

The Systems Engineer (Validation) is the project team member responsible for validation and verification of the system/mechanical hardware design for production applications.

Responsibilities: (other duties may be assigned as needed):

Interface with customers to support validation and verification of new electronic power steering components and sub-components:

  • Negotiation of system/mechanical test/validation requirements.
  • Creation/management of test DVP&R and test schedules.
  • Coordination of validation activities and validation samples with internal/external labs.
  • Creation of validation test procedures from internal/external requirements.
  • Creation of validation test reports to internal/external customers.
  • Communication/coordination of validation/verification status reports to the project team and/or customers.

Validation and Verification Activities:

  • Development of test cases, test scripts, and other related test documents based on requirements.
  • Create, collect, analyze, and publish test results.
  • Setup and usage of environmental chambers.
  • Reads and review test schedule, work orders, test manuals, performance specifications, wiring diagrams and schematics to determine testing procedure and equipment to be used.
  • Responsible for test instrumentation set-up, calibration, and usage.
  • Sets-up equipment and conducts engineering specification test.
  • Performs statistical analysis of test data, maintains test records, compiles test data, and reports test results
  • Analyze pre/post-test parts and determination of test results.
  • Coordinates lab resources to support in 8D problem solving teams.

Levels and Qualifications

Systems Engineer I – Entry

  • Work on project/matters with limited complexity in support role, work is closely managed.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical/electrical/Mechatronic Engineering, Material Science, or equivalent required.
  • 0-2 years’ relevant experience regarding the Responsibilities (listed above) for automotive SW development projects is preferred.
  • Training and/or Internship/Co-op in related field such as, automotive SW development, validation or vehicle CAN communication is preferred.

Systems Engineer II – Intermediate

  • Gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Occasionally directed in several aspects of the work.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical/electrical/Mechatronic Engineering, Material Science, or equivalent required.
  • 2-5 years’ relevant experience regarding the Responsibilities (listed above) for automotive SW development projects is preferred.

Systems Engineer III – Senior

  • Contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project. Work is generally independent and collaborative in nature.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical/electrical/Mechatronic Engineering, Material Science, or equivalent required, Master Preferred.
  • 5+ years’ relevant experience regarding the Responsibilities (listed above) for automotive SW development projects is preferred.

Systems Engineer IV – Specialist

  • A specialist in complex technical and business matters. Work is highly independent. May assume a part-leading role for the work group.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical/electrical/Mechatronic Engineering, Material Science, or equivalent required, Master Preferred.
  • 8+ years’ relevant experience regarding the Responsibilities (listed above) for automotive SW development projects is preferred.

Systems Engineer V – Expert

  • Works on advanced, complex technical projects or business issues requiring state of the art technical or industry knowledge. Works autonomously. Goals are generally communicated in solution or project goal terms. May provide a leadership role for the work group through knowledge in the area of specialization.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical/electrical/Mechatronic Engineering, Material Science, or equivalent required,

Master Preferred.

  • 12+ years’ relevant experience regarding the Responsibilities (listed above) for automotive SW development projects is preferred.

Technical Competencies:

  • General competency in core engineering fields (mechanical, electronics, computer hardware and software) is preferred.
  • Background in automotive engineering and chassis systems (steering, braking, suspension) is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of controls, motors, controllers (HW and SW), sensors and gear boxes are preferred.
  • Knowledge of Vehicle communication protocols (CAN, CAN FD, FlexRay, LIN, Ethernet, …) and Diagnostic protocols (UDS).
  • Knowledge of Test Benches and related tool chain for test benches such as MTS and Kokusai is preferred.
  • Experience with Configuration, Requirements, or Test Management toolchains (PTC Integrity, ClearCase, ClearQuest, DOORS, etc.).
  • Knowledge of automotive system development tools (Vector CANape, CANalyzer, CANoe, etc.) is preferred.
  • Experience in problem solving techniques is required.

Non-Technical Competencies:

  • Excellent organizational skills and strong communication skills are required.
  • Personable nature and strong relationship building skills required due to close working relationship with customer and internally.
  • High aptitude for troubleshooting/root cause analysis.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, Project).

Legal Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age due to federal labor law requirements.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Working Conditions: This position typically operates in an office environment, with frequent domestic travel to support R&D office, manufacturing facilities, and Customer sites.

Physical Requirements:

  • Manual dexterity to wire, assemble/disassemble components, and perform occasional soldering.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and move between lab setups; may involve lifting equipment (typically under 25 lbs.).
  • Strong visual acuity to read schematics, monitor signals, and identify hardware components.
  • Ability to hear diagnostic cues and communicate effectively in a noisy lab environment.
  • Exposure to lab conditions involving electronics and high-voltage systems.

Remote Work: Eligible for Hybrid Remote Work Schedule
