Job Summary:
This position will work with the Exchange Visitor Sponsorship team. The Department of Exchange Visitor Sponsorship (EVS) provides J-1 visa sponsorship to educational and research institutions, corporate partners, libraries, museums, not-for-profit and other similar organizations. The Assistant Director manages the Private Programs Team, which provides J visa sponsorship services under IIE’s program designations (Teacher, Trainee, College and University Student, Research Scholar, Professor, Short-Term Scholar and Specialist). The Assistant Director ensures the timely completion of contractual deliverables and manages communication with clients and host organizations. Through operational and people management, the Assistant Director implements business practices and coordinates with internal IIE teams to facilitate exchange visitor programs.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for sponsor/partner relationships, including but not limited to daily communication, contracts, services agreements, invoices and letters of agreements.
  • Manages a team of direct reports including EVS Advisors and EVS Coordinator.
  • Manages application process for sponsor/partner and evaluates candidate eligibility for J-1 visa sponsorship, taking into consideration participant and host site qualifications, exchange visitors goals and objectives, and funding amounts and sources, as needed.
  • Works with Director of EVS and other IIE teams to grow IIE’s Visa Sponsorship program; develops new sponsorship opportunities and screens inquiries.
  • Represents IIE at conferences and meetings with prospective sponsor/partners, conducts site visits to host institutions for the purposes of monitoring participants and confirming compliance with J-1 visa regulations.
  • Manages cash receipts from partners and programmatic payments to vendors in close coordination with IIE finance team.
  • In coordination with Director of EVS, prepares reports for regulatory compliance, ensures that annual deliverables are submitted as required.
  • Coordinates business system software integrations for EVS private programs including: application systems (Slate), ECRM (Microsoft Dynamics), financial systems (PeopleSoft), SEVIS management software (Terra Dotta) and others.
  • Designs business processes that meet individual client needs and allow for scaling as needed.
  • Acts as an Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) on IIE’s private programs and USG programs as required.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications and Experience:

Education and Work Experience:
• Requires a Bachelor's degree and at least five years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• High level of understanding of J regulations, SEVIS and responsibilities of an ARO.
• Ability to adapt to competing priorities, in order to meet deliverables and deadlines.
• Excellent customer service skills and interpersonal skills; ability to interact with others in a warm and collaborative manner, creating a climate of trust, consideration and mutual respect.
• Ability to maintain and build strong relationships with team members and external stakeholders.
• Must be a citizen or legal permanent resident of the U.S., as required by the U.S. Code of Federal Regulations.
• Previous experience working with Exchange Visitor Programs in the Intern, Trainee and Teacher programs is preferred.

Salary and Benefits:
• Hiring Range: $73,807 - $85,801. A candidate’s salary is determined by various factors including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, job-related knowledge, skills, abilities, internal organizational equity, and geographic region.
