Job Description
The City of Greer is currently accepting applications for Certified Firefighters in our Fire Department.
Responsibilities:
• Responds to calls for fire, medical, hazmat, rescue and other natural and/or man-made emergencies.
• Carries out commands and tasks necessary to mitigate the emergency safely and efficiently.
• Provides immediate lifesaving care while awaiting additional EMS resources to arrive.
• Trains and studies with fire tools and equipment to develop and maintain competency and proficiency in fire suppression and prevention procedures and techniques, lifesaving techniques, and to become familiar with developments in incombustible and fire hazards.
• Performs hydrant, hose and pumper tests to ensure effectiveness and efficiency of equipment; reviews building changes and contents; reviews maps and data of streets and road locations; reviews hydrants, churches, apartments, complexes, schools, and other building locations.
• Review pre-fire plans to keep abreast of structural layouts, power meter installations, fire department connections, and hydrant locations.
• Conducts Community Risk Reduction: public service calls, customer surveys, recruiting events, blood pressure checks, home safety surveys, smoke detector instillation, fire plans, community meetings, school events, fire safety talks, apparatus displays.
• Cleans and maintains equipment:
Performs station cleaning and maintenance duties.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
· Performs general administrative tasks as required, including preparing reports and correspondence, entering and retrieving computer data, filing records, and answering phones.
· Participates in required training and continuing education to obtain and maintain certifications and stay current on changes in codes and ordinances.
· Assists other officers and staff when workload, emergencies, or special assignments require.
· Stays current on departmental policies, procedures, and processes.
· Completes work accurately, safely, and efficiently; maintains assigned equipment in good working condition.
· Maintains a clean, safe, and organized work area.
· Identifies and reports suggested improvements or areas of concern to the Supervisor.
· Ensures professionalism and excellent customer service in all interactions while representing the City of Greer.
· Demonstrates strong ethical conduct, integrity, and accountability with coworkers, customers, and the community.
· Supports a culture of results, communication, and professional collaboration within the department and across the organization.
· Represents the department at community events or meetings when requested by the Supervisor.
· Adheres to the Employee Handbook and all applicable policies and procedures.
· Maintains regular, reliable attendance.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
Hours: 24 hour shifts, rotating every third day
Salary: Minimum $19.15 hourly; dependent on experience

Requirements:EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE - REQUIRED
· High School diploma or GED.
· Must possess NFPA/IFSAC Firefighter II
· Must obtain National Registry EMT– B within 12 months of hire.
· Must possess a valid state issued drivers’ license.
EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE – PREFERRED
· Prefer one (1) year of experience in fire suppression, fire prevention, and education.
· Prefer one (1) year of experience as a firefighter.
· NIMS ICS 100, 200,700 and Basic Auto Extrication (SC 3330).
