Lead the Salt Lake City branch’s front-line parts operations with a focus on counter sales, parts sourcing and providing solutions for our customers, including our service department. Key Responsibilities
Safety & Culture
- Champion a zero-accident workplace using TRACK and Total Safety Management systems.
- Promote a growth minded, lean thinking culture that empowers team members to “See it, Do it, Teach it.”
- Ensure all team members are equipped and supported to work safely and return home safely each day.
- Implement a 5S lean mentality throughout Salt Lake City operations.
- Customer experience
- Lead the counter teams to deliver a world-class customer experience whether in person, by phone, or online.
- Ensure parts are sourced quickly and accurately, using alternative solutions when needed.
- Collaborate with the Regional Operations, Logistics, and Supply Chain teams to provide seamless service across all customer touchpoints.
- Resolve customer issues with urgency, ownership, and a solutions-first mindset.
Operational Excellence
- Use lean principles to eliminate waste and improve efficiency in counter and sourcing operations.
- Coordinate with warehousing, logistics, and supply chain teams to ensure timely fulfillment.
- Monitor KPIs and implement improvements using PSQDC (People, Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost) tools.
- Support parts programs such as CVA kits, will-call staging, and emergency order fulfillment.
- Digital tools & process Improvement
- Promote and support the use of digital platforms like Parts.CAT.com, SIS 2.0, and Parts Viz.
- Develop and implement SOPs to streamline counter and sourcing workflows.
- Embrace new technologies that enhance the customer experience and operational efficiency.
Expense Management
- Track and optimize key expenses including freight, personnel, and emergency order costs.
- Implement cost-control measures while maintaining high service levels.
Leadership & Talent Development
- Build and mentor a high-performing counter sales and sourcing team.
- Provide coaching, training, and development opportunities to grow future leaders.
- Foster a One Unified Team approach across departments and shifts.
- Strategic Initiatives
- Align Salt Lake City operations with enterprise-wide goals and Caterpillar standards.
- Pilot new initiatives and share best practices across the organization.
- Represent the Salt Lake City branch in cross-functional projects and leadership forums.
Qualifications
- 5–10 years of leadership experience in parts operations or customer-facing roles.
- Strong understanding of counter sales, parts sourcing, and customer service best practices.
- Proven ability to lead teams, solve problems, and drive continuous improvement.
- Proficiency in parts systems (DBS, SIS 2.0, Parts.CAT.com) and Microsoft Office.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent experience.
