Chief Operating Officer at Walsh Hospital District Healthcare Center – Walsh, Colorado

• Oversight of the long-term financial and operational strategy of Walsh Hospital District. This position requires a strategic leader who can build and manage a centralized business office across four healthcare entities, implement robust internal controls, modernize technology infrastructure, and deliver the financial transparency necessary for informed board governance. The COO serves as the District's Controller/Director of Finance and Operations Manager, centralizing all accounting, payroll, billing, purchasing, and financial reporting functions under a single leadership structure.

This is a business operations and finance leadership position. While healthcare experience is valuable, the core competencies are financial management, internal controls implementation, systems modernization, and organizational leadership. Candidates from government, multi-entity nonprofit, public utility, or other complex operational environments with transferable skills are encouraged to apply.

Requirements:

• Demonstrated experience implementing accounting systems and establishing internal controls in a multi-department or multi-entity environment.
• Proficiency with cloud-based accounting platforms and AP/AR automation tools.
• Budget development and variance analysis experience across multiple cost centers, departments, or entities.
• Revenue cycle or accounts receivable management experience including aging analysis, collections strategy, and denial resolution.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills including board-level or executive financial reporting and presentation.
• Cash flow management and forecasting experience with demonstrated ability to manage liquidity across restricted and unrestricted funds.
• Experience building or leading teams through operational restructuring, process improvement, or organization transformation.

Preferred:

• CPA, CMA, MBA, MPA, MHA, or equivalent advanced credential.
• Degree in accounting, finance, business administration, public administration, or similar professional field.
• Healthcare finance or operations experience--particularly in long-term care, rural health, critical access hospitals, or multi-site healthcare systems.
• Grant writing and federal/state program administration.
• Government or public-sector accounting experience including special district, municipal, or county-level fiscal management.
• Experience with EHR/billing system integration and EDI claims processing.
• Knowledge of Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement including cost reporting, supplemental payment programs, and compliance requirements.
• Colorado regulatory familiarity--special district law, DOLA reporting, CDPHE requirements, or similar state oversight frameworks.
• Technology transformation experience including system migration, process automation, and change management.
