Job DetailsDescription

Boise Cascade installs, services, and maintains a portfolio of proprietary SawTek Engineered Wood Product automated processing systems in lumber yards across North America. Our Industrial Mechanical/Controls Technician works with our team to safely provide mechanical installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance services in support of the SawTek platform.

The successful candidate will be responsible for following established safety policies including PPE, hot work, housekeeping, forklift use and fall protection while also contributing to the continuous improvement of the SawTek team safety culture. They will work independently and as part of a team on a variety of assignments, including:

  • Assembly, installation, and miscellaneous fabrication tasks as part of the equipment installation team
  • Assisting with commissioning, startups, system modifications, and upgrades of automated machinery
  • Troubleshooting and repair industrial electrical systems, including motors, sensors, actuators, VFDs, control panels, and field devices
  • Interpreting and working from electrical schematics, control drawings, and technical documentation
  • Using PC-based tools for diagnostics, configuration, documentation, and reporting
  • Performing on-demand service calls to troubleshoot control/mechanical systems at customer locations
  • Conducting preventive maintenance service calls at customer locations.
  • Providing remote technical support and real-time troubleshooting of control/mechanical systems, independently or in collaboration with teammates
  • Operating simple industrial equipment including forklifts and scissor lifts

Basic Qualifications:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with willingness to perform hands-on work in industrial environments
  • Demonstrated teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with customers, vendors, and teammates
  • Solid understanding of industrial machinery, controls, and basic equipment installation
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings
  • Excellent technical, analytical, and troubleshooting skills
  • Proficient computer skills, including use of automation software, documentation tools, Microsoft applications, and basic networking concepts
  • Self-motivated, dependable, and able to work independently or as part of a team, with a proactive approach to developing new skills
  • Must be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment and adapt to a dynamic schedule and workload

Travel/Work Requirements:

  • Location is flexible within the United States; must reside near a commercial airport
  • Willingness and ability to travel 50% or more, including occasional weekends and extended workdays (10–12 hours) as required by project schedule
  • Ability to work at jobsites across a wide range of indoor and outdoor environments, including varying weather, humidity, and temperature conditions
  • Ability to perform the physical demands of the role, including lifting up to 50 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with PLCs, HMIs, and/or SCADA systems, including the ability to read and interpret PLC code for troubleshooting
  • PLC, HMI, or automation controls programming experience
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols such as Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus, and EtherCAT
  • Ability to read and interpret CAD drawings (AutoCAD or similar)
  • Fabrication and welding experience
  • Experience in industrial, mechanical, electrical, or production environments, including manufacturing, processing, or automation settings
  • Working knowledge of automated EWP processing systems or similar equipment
  • Technical degree, certification, or equivalent hands-on experience in controls, automation, or a related field

Salary Range for Level I is $73,920 - $110,880

Salary Range for Senior level is $89,120 - $ 133,680
