The Horticulture Assistant at Stone Gables Estate is responsible for assisting the horticultural mission of our business – creating premier properties. This is a Part-Time position.
Requirements:- Degree in Ornamental Horticulture or similar certification is preferred.
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- At least 2 years of knowledge and experience in Horticulture or relevant background and knowledge in related fields.
- Ability to work with a variety of different skilled workforce.
- Able to assess situations and make proper horticultural decisions, using educational background, former training, and knowledge.
- Demonstrates a willingness to learn new skills and embrace professional growth opportunities.
- Strong follow-through and a keen sense of ownership, along with an aptitude for building relationships at all levels within the organization.
Primary Job Duties
- Assist with the care and maintenance of plants across the estate, including watering, pruning, fertilizing, and monitoring overall plant health.
- Assist with the planting and design efforts by helping with plant selection, ordering, and installation under guidance.
- Assist with maintaining various areas of the property, including greenhouses, orchards, vineyards, roadways, woodlands, and nursery/growing spaces.
- Help with seasonal decorating and event setup for indoor and outdoor spaces, including Airbnb properties.
- Assist to provide support for large-scale seasonal operations, including Christmas events that host high volumes of guests.
- Follow safe work practices and assist with maintaining compliance with applicable guidelines and regulations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Physical Demands/Environment:
- Regularly required to sit, stand, or walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects; reach with hands and arms; and communicate effectively (talk and hear).
- Use peripheral vision, depth perception, adjust focus, and utilize distance vision.
- Work may be performed in wet, humid, and outdoor weather conditions.
- Frequently required to stand, climb or balance; stoop, kneel or crouch; work at heights.
- Frequently required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Occasionally required to lift and/or move over 100 pounds with team assistance and/or power equipment.
- The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate. Subject to cleaning chemicals.
Work Attire – Varies based on activity or event, employees will be informed of expectations. No attire may be ripped, tattered, frayed, wrinkled, stained, revealing, or excessively tight.
