About This Position

Description:

This is an opportunity to be a part of a dynamic rehab team that will take patients from injury or surgery back to recreational activities and full sports performance. The Exercise Specialist performs tasks that include, but are not limited to, assisting patients with their exercise programs as prescribed by a physical therapist, giving patients feedback on technique and posture, communicating with the physical therapist on patient progress, documenting patient progress on exercise sheets in clinic, using computer software to generate home exercise programs, cleaning and maintaining the equipment and treatment areas. The role involves ensuring a safe and organized environment, adhering to health and safety regulations, and potentially performing clerical tasks like managing supplies and scheduling appointments.

Key Responsibilities

Equipment and Area Maintenance:

  • Keep the treatment area, including the gym, clean, organized, and safe.
  • Prepare and sanitize equipment for patient use.
  • Return equipment, such as weights and dumbbells, to their designated areas.
  • Address equipment problems, cleaning needs, and report any incidents that occur.
  • Assist with planning scheduled maintenance of equipment.

Patient Assistance:

  • Assist patients in using exercise equipment as directed by the physical therapist or assistant.
  • Help patients move into and out of treatment areas or onto equipment.
  • Monitor and assist patients during prescribed exercises.

Team Collaboration:

  • Work under the supervision of a physical therapist or physical therapist assistant.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and patients.

Safety and Emergency Preparedness:

  • Comply with all health and safety regulations.
  • Assist in emergencies according to the facility's emergency procedures.

Administrative Tasks:

  • Help with tasks like ordering supplies and maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Assist with patient scheduling.
Requirements:

Excellent Interpersonal Skills:

  • Ability to communicate effectively and adapt to a wide range of patient needs

Strong Organizational Skills:

  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and complete tasks efficiently.

Attention to Detail:

  • Ability to monitor the quality of work spaces, ensuring that issues are recognized, documented and addressed through timely resolution

Teamwork:

  • Ability to work cooperatively with other employees and adapt to varying team member work styles.

Physical Fitness:

  • The role may require ability to handle heavy equipment and assist patients experiencing limited mobility
