Technician - Construction Materials Testing Laboratory – West Sacramento, CA

Position Summary:

Blackburn Consulting (Blackburn) is seeking a full-time, seasonal Laboratory Technician for our Construction Materials Testing Laboratory. This technician will complete tests and document results as well as help log incoming materials samples at Blackburn’s West Sacramento Construction Materials Testing Laboratory. The Technician will be supervised by Blackburn’s Construction Services Laboratory Manager and Director of Construction Services. This candidate shall have at 0-2+ years of experience performing construction materials laboratory tests in accordance with ASTM, AASHTO and Caltrans test methods. This position may require some limited travel (<25%) to project sites or other testing laboratories to pick up and deliver samples.

Blackburn Consulting provides geotechnical, geo-environmental, construction, forensics and lab engineering services throughout California with offices in Auburn, West Sacramento, Escondido, Sausalito, and Fresno. We have an extensive geotechnical and materials testing lab in West Sacramento, CA. We focus mostly on public works including flood control and transportation. Blackburn has been in business since 1998 and is employee-owned and operated.

Position Duties:

• Complete assigned laboratory test within deadlines and in accordance with appropriate testing methods
• Accept direction from the Laboratory Manager and help with equipment upkeep, space and sample management, and laboratory organization/cleaning.
• Acquire certifications as needed
• Enter laboratory test data into the proper lab information management system and generate reports
• Catch and report failed tests to the responsible person

Essential Abilities:

• Perform typical calculations associated with laboratory tests
• Communication skills internally and externally
• Keep track of time spent on different projects
• Ability to deliver a high-quality deliverable in a timely manner
• Flexible schedule
• Attention to detail

Technical Qualifications:

• High school degree
• 0-2+ years of relevant experience
• Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle.
• Experience with standard computer operations (Windows based systems).
• Certification by ACI, Caltrans, or NICET preferred

Physical Requirements:

• Read, write, and speak English
• Communicate clearly in person and over telephone
• Visual acuity to perform job duties
• Physical ability to bend, reach, stand, walk, sit, push and pull up to 50lbs
