While the role is field-forward, we value candidates who can also contribute in the office when workload requires — processing data, assisting with drafting, conducting records research, and supporting preparation of survey deliverables. The main responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Serve as Survey Crew Lead or perform field work autonomously on assigned projects
- Set up and operate GNSS receivers, data collectors, robotic total stations, terrestrial scanners, digital levels, and related survey equipment
- Interpret plans and staking calculations to perform construction staking in municipal, urban, and rural environments
- Perform boundary retracement field investigations and recover survey monumentation
- Collect topographic data for pre-design surveys using prescribed methods, procedures, and J-U-B standards
- Ensure adherence to direction provided by the Professional Land Surveyor(s) responsible for the work, particularly regarding accuracy, completeness, quality control, and defensibility
- Maintain clear, organized, and legally defensible field documentation and digital records
- Perform routine field calculations and quality checks
- Maintain survey vehicles and equipment in safe, organized working condition
- Coordinate daily field activities and communicate effectively with the Survey Team and project staff
- Uphold safety protocols and exercise sound professional judgment
- Perform physically demanding tasks in varied terrain and weather conditions
Office / Technical Responsibilities:
- Process field data using Trimble Business Center and/or Civil 3D
- Assist with preparation of survey deliverables, including surveys, exhibits, and supporting documentation
- Conduct records research including surveys, deeds, subdivision plats, easements, right-of-way documents, and BLM/GLO materials
- Perform closures, dimension verification, and quality control review
- Prepare field information packets and project documentation
- Coordinate underground utility locate requests
- Assist with maintaining organized digital and physical survey files
- Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of current and evolving competence
Technology & Specialized Skills: (Preferred)
- Experience with Trimble equipment and software
- Experience operating UAV/drone systems for survey data collection
- Current FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate preferred
- Experience with terrestrial LiDAR scanning equipment and point cloud processing
- Familiarity with GNSS workflows and control procedures
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Trimble Business Center
- 2+ years of land surveying experience required; 5+ years preferred
- Party Chief / Crew Lead experience preferred
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Valid Driver’s License with clean driving record
- Working knowledge of boundary procedures and construction staking practices
- Strong attention to detail and sound analytical judgment
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of field assignments
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and perform physically demanding work in all weather conditions
- Flexibility to work extended hours when project schedules require
Passage of the Fundamentals of Surveying (FS) Exam (LSI Certification), or the desire to pursue certification and eventual licensure, is encouraged. We actively mentor individuals who demonstrate initiative toward professional growth within the surveying profession.
Salary Range: $26.00 - $36.00 per hour, determined by experience
