About the Role

The Senior Communications Specialist is a strategic storyteller and reputation builder focusing on building and protecting corporate trust and reputation. This leader helps to develop and implement external and internal communications, media relations, executive visibility, and brand narrative efforts. They bring a sharp editorial eye, a proactive mindset, and the ability to translate complex ideas into clear, compelling messages that resonate with diverse audiences.

This role reports to the SVP, Marketing & Communications and partners closely with senior leadership, cross functional teams, and external stakeholders to strengthen the organization’s voice, protect its reputation, and drive meaningful engagement.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Communications Leadership

  • Develop and execute comprehensive communications programs aligned with organizational goals.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to executives on messaging, media engagement, and reputation management.
  • Lead crisis and issues management communications with clarity, speed, and sound judgment.

Media Relations & External Visibility

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, industry analysts, and key stakeholders.
  • Identify and secure high impact media opportunities, speaking engagements, and thought leadership placements.
  • Draft and oversee press releases, media statements, op eds, and executive talking points.

Brand & Narrative Development

  • Shape and refine the organization’s brand voice, ensuring consistency across all channels.
  • Lead storytelling initiatives that highlight organizational impact, innovation, and culture.
  • Oversee content strategy for web, social media, campaigns, and external publications.

Internal Communications

  • Partner with HR and leadership to develop internal messaging that strengthens culture and employee engagement.
  • Manage communication plans for organizational updates, change initiatives, and leadership announcements.

Cross Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with marketing, government affairs, operations, and other departments to ensure aligned messaging.
  • Oversee agency partners, freelancers, and vendors as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 6–10 years of progressive experience in communications or PR, ideally in a complex or high visibility environment. Experience working in IP, licensing, and technology a plus.
  • Proven success in media relations, crisis communications, and executive communications.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
  • Strong strategic thinking paired with hands on execution ability.
  • Experience managing teams and external partners.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast paced, dynamic environment with shifting priorities.
