About This Position

The health and safety of our staff is our #1 priority. As you care for others, Monarch House will care for you. As a Behaviour Interventionist (BI) at Monarch House your primary responsibility is implementing programs designed and supervised by a senior clinical team (of speech pathologists, by a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst® BCBAs, Occupational therapists and physical therapists) to clients receiving services from Monarch House. You will work within an interdisciplinary team to support skill acquisition and/or decrease maladaptive behaviors while providing an engaging and positive client experience in a fast paced and frequently changing environment.

Job Type: Part-time. Hourly.
Work setup: Centre-based
Salary: $21-23/hr

Schedule:
Monday and Tuesday, between 9AM - 7PM
Wednesday, 5PM - 7PM
Thursday, 2:30PM - 7PM
Friday, 9AM - 6:30PM

Take an inside look at what you will do each day:

  • Responsible for implementing programs based on best practices.
  • Uses systematic methods and behavioural strategies to support client in changing their behaviour
  • Contributes to the development of programs established by the clinical team to teach and reinforce a variety of skills for children and youth in a 1:1 and/or small group setting
  • Understand the functions of behavior and responds appropriately and safely when situations arise
  • Adhere to all clinical training, procedures, and protocols
  • Ability to adapt to changing conditions and/or routine and provide creative solutions
  • Responsible for creating a positive and engaging environment for the client
  • Support clients with personal care tasks such as dressing, toileting, and eating
  • Responsible for maintaining the well-being and safety

Here is what you will need to be successful

  • 1-2 years experience working with children and youth with complex needs and/or developmental disabilities
  • Pursuing or completed education in Psychology, Speech or linguistics, occupational therapy or kinesiology.
  • Education and demonstrated ability in ethical and professional practice
  • Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening within the last 6 months
  • Ability to travel within the community
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year experience working with the pediatric population is a plus
  • Enrollment in or degree from a post-secondary program of Psychology, Educational Psychology, Special Education or another related field is an asset
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder specific coursework, training or workshops an asset
  • Experience working with clients who have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder or other developmental disabilities
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada
