Job Overview

Capital Railroad Contracting is seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Payroll / Human Resources Administrator to oversee payroll processing and support daily HR operations at our Columbia, MO office. This role is critical to ensuring accurate compensation, regulatory compliance, and a positive employee experience across the organization.

The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced construction environment, maintains strict confidentiality, and balances compliance with responsive employee support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Payroll Administration
    • Process payroll accurately and on schedule for company employees

    • Maintain payroll records including earnings, deductions, bonuses, and adjustments

    • Manage direct deposits, tax withholdings, garnishments, and benefit deductions

    • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations

    • Prepare payroll reports and assist with quarterly and annual filings

    • Support year-end processing, including W-2 preparation

    • Respond to employee payroll questions in a timely and professional manner

  • Human Resources Administration
    • Prepare and administer onboarding documentation for new hires

    • Maintain organized and compliant employee personnel files

    • Administer employee benefits and coordinate open enrollment

    • Ensure compliance with employment laws and internal company policies

    • Support performance review processes and employee engagement initiatives

    • Process offboarding documentation and related records

Qualifications
  • 5+ years of payroll and/or human resources experience

  • Working knowledge of payroll systems and HR software

  • Familiarity with federal and state employment laws

  • Strong Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office proficiency

  • High level of confidentiality and professionalism

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills

  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Associates or Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or Accounting

    • Experience processing payroll for multiple employees and/or multiple entities
