Description:

SUMMARY:

The Biologist II is a mid-level professional position responsible for supporting and leading field and regulatory efforts across multiple environmental projects. This role requires independent judgment, technical expertise, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to support permitting, regulatory compliance, and project execution throughout the Gulf Coast region.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

  • Bachelor of Science in Biology, Forestry, Fisheries, Wildlife Biology, Ecology, or closely related field.
  • Three to five years of professional experience in biological, environmental, or natural resources work.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state and/or local regulations (e.g., Clean Water Act, Section 10 of the Rivers, and Harbors Act, etc.) focusing primarily on the Gulf Coast Region.
  • Proficient in use of Trimble units or similar GPS technologies.
  • Demonstrated written communication and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of Endangered Species Act Section 7 and Section 10 processes.
  • Knowledge of general state/federal permitting processes to assist with proposals and project management.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain an insurable driving record.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to provide cooperation and coordination with other Providence media groups.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead a team of biologists in performing delineations of wetlands/waters of the U.S. per U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) requirements and prepare wetland data reports/requests for Preliminary Jurisdictional Determinations to submit to the USACE.
  • Lead a team of biologists in performing threatened and endangered (T&E) species and habitat survey for assistance with formal or informal Section 7 consultations with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
  • Assist in permit application preparation and monitoring of various federal/state/local permits.
  • Travel regularly throughout south Louisiana and the Gulf Coast Region to various field sites; travel to other areas may be required.
  • Conduct background research and regulatory reviews for projects to determine permitting requirements and anticipated levels of effort in support of proposal development.
  • Comply with all client regulatory and internal safety requirements and training protocols.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of project and organizational objectives.

  • Ability to travel frequently and on short notice.
  • Ability to travel overnight for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to walk long distances, recurring bending, stooping, lifting, reaching, digging, and similar activities.

  • Ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions and on varied terrain, sometimes for extended periods of time.
  • Preferred ability to drive all-terrain vehicles and small marine vessels, including pulling equipment on trailer.
