The Opportunity:

Prospect Schools is seeking an Elementary School Dance Teacher for the 26 - 27 School Year. You will be responsible for teaching and training a dynamic group of students in a range of techniques and dance styles, ensuring that all students are engaged, motivated, and inspired. Through teaching the basic principles of dance, you are expected to develop a curriculum that will allow students to demonstrate personal growth as dancers and express their creativity.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Ability to teach using various dance styles and methodologies from beginner to advanced level.

    • Create a dance curriculum and lesson plans appropriate for the class; this might include:

    • To recognize the significance of dance in society, notable contributors to dance, and a body of significant dance works

    • To apply compositional tools and choreographic principles

    • To understand dance terms and vocabularies by moving (kinetic) and speaking, (conceptual) dance languages

    • To use universally accepted dance vocabulary, terminology, and symbols of dance.

    • Ability to communicate and teach a diverse group of students.

    • Engage, encourage, and motivate students to reach their goals.

    • Evaluate student performance and make recommendations for improvement.

    • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.

    • Choreograph routines and select music for culminating events.

    • Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities.

    • Organize performance groups, and direct their rehearsals, put on performances.

    • Explain principles, techniques, and safety procedures to participants in the activities, and demonstrate use of materials and equipment

    • Organize, lead, and promote interest in daily dance activities such as warm-up, movement across the floor, center activity and combinations as well as activities that lead to full performance pieces, workshops, etc

About you:

    • You have a Bachelors Degree

    • You have at least two years of Dance Education Experience to youth grades K-5

    • You are knowledgeable and skilled in one or more styles of dance and have prior experience successfully teaching and instructing youth in dance

    • You are energetic, driven, creative, and dependable

    • You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills

    • You understand the importance of being responsible, reliable, and punctual

Salary:

The salary range for this role starts at $63,960, then increases based on years of experience. Our salaries are set through a lens of equity, and based on an individual’s skills, education, and years of experience relevant to the role.
