Disability Specialist at Maine Public Employees Retirement System – Augusta, Maine

The Maine Public Employees Retirement System (MainePERS) seeks a Disability Specialist to join our Disability Services department. Disability Specialists are primarily responsible for collecting medical evidence from healthcare providers and reviewing employment information collected through applicants/recipients and employers. In consultation with MainePERS’ Medical Review Service Provider, Specialists issue decisions related to eligibility criteria. Successful applicants will possess strong analytical and communication skills.

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with two years of progressively responsible administrative experience - or- an associate’s degree in a relevant field and five years of complex administrative or technical experience - or- any equivalent combination of education and experience. At least one (1) year of experience must be in the application of complex laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
• Proficient in MS Office suite
• Demonstrate strong analytical thinking, writing, and communication skills.
• Must have interpersonal skills to deal effectively with diverse populations including physically and mentally incapacitated persons.

• Experience which demonstrates interviewing and other skills necessary to evaluate medical reports and related data to make complex determinations of eligibility for benefits or services.
• Experience relating to disability determination or vocational rehabilitation.

Salary: Begins at $31.34/hr or $65,187 if annualized.
