About This Position
Families and Communities Rising, Inc. (FCR, Inc.) is a nonprofit organization that has provided early education and resources to families for over 50 years! The Parent, Family, and Community Engagement (PFCE) Intern will play a vital role in supporting the implementation of FCR’s PFCE Framework under the guidance of the Community Engagement Manager. This internship provides a valuable, hands-on opportunity for a social work student to gain practical experience in family engagement, social service coordination, and community outreach. The intern will assist with organizing community events, supporting the food pantry program, and facilitating parent trainings and workshops. Through these activities, the intern will help cultivate equitable, family-centered partnerships that enhance family well-being and promote school readiness for children.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in planning and implementing family engagement events, such as family literacy nights, health fairs, and parent celebrations.
Assist with the coordination and outreach efforts for parent trainings and workshops, covering key topics such as parenting skills, financial literacy, mental health, and workforce development.
Collaborate with Family Engagement staff to identify and connect families to relevant community services and supports.
Help organize and distribute resources (food, hygiene kits, diapers) to enrolled families through FCR’s community pantry.
Maintain confidentiality and sensitivity when working with families experiencing food insecurity or other challenges.
Support the Community Engagement Manager in building relationships with local partners and volunteers.
Assist with promotional outreach to improve visibility of programs and services offered to families.
Represent FCR in community-facing activities under supervision.
Assist in tracking attendance and participation data for PFCE-related events and services.
Participate in reflection meetings and offer insights to improve engagement strategies.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
Demonstrate professional communication and collaborative skills in a multidisciplinary environment.
Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s level Social Work program (BSW or MSW), or related field (e.g., human development, public health).
Strong interest in family-centered, equity-focused work in early childhood and community-based settings.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
Bilingual (English/Spanish or other languages) preferred but not required.
Basic computer proficiency (email, Microsoft Office, Google Workspace).
Must adhere to confidentiality policies and professional conduct standards.
Completion of background check and onboarding process per Head Start regulations.
Ability to attend occasional evening or weekend events, if needed.
This internship involves a combination of on-site and community-based work. Tasks may involve physical activities such as setting up events, lifting pantry supplies, and interacting directly with families and children in a culturally responsive and welcoming environment.
The PFCE Intern will receive:

Opportunities for reflection and integration with academic field education requirements (if applicable)
