Job Summary

At our SunGold Foods location, the Production Lead for the Roasting Department is responsible for overseeing daily operations related to roasting and seasoning sunflower seeds. This role ensures that roasting processes are efficient, meet quality standards, and align with production schedules. The Production Lead supervises a team, maintains equipment, monitors product quality, and promotes a safe and compliant work environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership:
    • Supervise and lead team members within the roasting department during shifts.
    • Assign daily tasks and monitor team performance to meet production targets.
    • Train employees on roasting processes, seasoning techniques, and safety protocols.
    • Provide regular feedback and address performance or operational issues.
  • Operational Management:
    • Oversee the setup, operation, and monitoring of roasting equipment, including ovens, conveyors, and mixers.
    • Ensure roasting temperatures, times, and seasoning processes meet product specifications.
    • Monitor production schedules and adjust operations to meet deadlines and volume demands.
    • Collaborate with packaging and quality control teams to ensure smooth transitions and consistency.
  • Quality and Compliance:
    • Perform regular checks on roasted products to ensure consistency in flavor, color, and texture.
    • Ensure compliance with company policies, food safety regulations (e.g., FDA, HACCP), and OSHA standards.
    • Maintain accurate records of roasting parameters, production outputs, and quality inspections.
  • Maintenance:
    • Conduct routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting on roasting equipment.
    • Coordinate with maintenance teams for major repairs and preventative maintenance.
  • Inventory and Supplies Management:
    • Monitor raw material levels (sunflower seeds, oils, seasonings) and coordinate replenishment as needed.
    • Minimize waste and optimize ingredient usage.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Identify opportunities to improve roasting processes, reduce waste, and increase efficiency.
    • Implement process improvements and update standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in food production or roasting operations, with leadership experience preferred.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot roasting machinery and equipment.
  • Knowledge of roasting and seasoning techniques, including temperature control and ingredient blending preferred.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting production schedules and quality standards.
  • Basic math and computer skills for inventory tracking and reporting.


Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in a production facility with varying temperatures (cooler or warmer environments depending on the process area).
  • Exposure to loud machinery, dust, and food-grade oils may occur.
  • Employees must wear appropriate PPE, such as gloves, hairnets, and ear protection.
  • Production schedules may require overtime, weekend, or holiday shifts.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequently required to stand for extended periods (up to 8-10 hours per shift).
  • Regularly lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Perform repetitive tasks, including bending, twisting, and reaching.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet production quotas.
