Certified Surgical First Assist (CSFA) at St. Claire Regional Medical Center – Morehead, Kentucky

The Clinical Surgical First Assistant supports the surgeons and operating room staff by anticipating their needs regarding the requirements of a particular surgical procedure.

Duties/Responsibilities:
• Reviews permit to confirm procedures and any special needs and participates in “time out” sessions before surgery.
• Provides exposure to the operative site.
• Performs wound closure.
• Possesses a working knowledge of all operating room procedures concerning attire and infection control and is familiar with individual requirements and recommended compliance practices.
• Works as a surgical technologist as needed.

Education:
Graduation from a program approved by the Commission of Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP)

Experience:
Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) and Certified Surgical First Assist (CSFA) required

Licensure/Certification:
Certification from the National Surgical Assistant Association (NSAA) required within 24 months of employment
Must maintain certification while in Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) position by completing Continuing Education Units (CEU) as required by the National Surgical Assistant Association (NSAA)
