Security Guard - Per Diem at The Society for the Protection and Care of Children (SPCC) – Rochester, New York

JOB SUMMARY: SPCC is seeking professional and compassionate Security Officers to support safety within our Pediatric and Visitation Center. This role goes beyond traditional security by incorporating trauma-informed and humanity-centered practices while supporting children, families, staff, and community partners in a sensitive service environment.

Security Officers help maintain a safe and respectful atmosphere by monitoring facility safety, supporting staff during escalated situations, reviewing daily safety planning needs, and collaborating with program teams. Candidates must demonstrate professionalism, sound judgment, and strong communication and de-escalation skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

• Support and maintain a safe environment for staff, clients, and visitors within the Pediatric and Visitation Center.
• Review daily schedules and high-risk or PNG lists to proactively support safety planning.
• Monitor video and audio equipment to ensure safety and operational awareness.
• Provide consultation and support to visitation staff during escalated situations or early visit endings.
• Escort family members, volunteers, and staff when appropriate.
• Participate in required security trainings, meetings, and programmatic collaboration.
• Work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners, including other security professionals.
• Represent SPCC’s mission, values, and professionalism in all interactions.
• Apply trauma-informed and humanity-centered practices in all security interactions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate degree is preferred
• Minimum of 3 to 5 years of professional experience in a security guard or security officer role required
• Active New York State Security Guard License required
• Previous experience in law enforcement, including police officer, peace officer, military service, or similar roles, preferred.
