About This Position

Description:

The School Counselor develops and implements a comprehensive counseling program to support the social, emotional, and academic development of students in grades K–8. This role provides individual and group counseling, facilitates classroom guidance activities, collaborates with staff and families, and connects students to additional support services as needed. The School Counselor promotes positive mental health, social skills, academic planning, and a safe, supportive school environment.

Requirements:
  • Master’s degree in School Counseling, Psychology, or a related field
  • Colorado Department of Education License or endorsement in School Counseling
  • Demonstrated experience working with school-aged children
  • Knowledge of child development, counseling techniques, and developmental guidance programs
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills
  • Commitment to student growth, safety, and well-being

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement, and maintain a comprehensive school counseling program aligned with student developmental needs.
  • Facilitate counseling curriculum integration into classroom instruction to support social, emotional, and academic growth.
  • Provide individual counseling to students addressing academic, social, and emotional needs.
  • Assist students with academic goal setting, transition planning, and career exploration.
  • Implement referral and follow-up processes to connect students with outside counseling and support services.
  • Consult and coordinate with in-school professionals, administrators, nurses, psychologists, and community agencies regarding student needs.
  • Provide guidance and information to staff and parents regarding student crises or concerns affecting school climate.
  • Conduct program audits and collect data to evaluate the effectiveness of the school counseling program.
  • Maintain accurate student records and documentation, including schedules in PowerSchool.
  • Monitor and respond to Safe2Tell submissions and other student safety concerns.
  • Participate in professional development and maintain current knowledge of counseling practices, laws, policies, and ethical standards.
  • Support and contribute to a safe, organized, and positive school climate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by administration.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

  • Work primarily performed in classrooms, offices, and common areas within the school
  • Frequent standing, walking, and interacting with students and staff; occasional sitting for computer work
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds occasionally
  • Exposure to typical school environments, including classrooms, hallways, and common spaces
  • Mental functions include interpersonal communication, problem-solving, planning, and evaluation
