Car Dismantler at Blue Island Recycling, LLC – Blue Island, Illinois

POSITION SUMMARY
The Car Dismantler is responsible for the safe and efficient depollution, dismantling, and preparation of end-of-life vehicles (ELVs) for recycling. This position involves fluid removal, battery removal, component separation, and material sorting while maintaining compliance with environmental, safety, and company policies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform safe depollution of vehicles, including removal of fuel, oil, coolant, transmission fluid, refrigerants, and other fluids.
- Disconnect and remove batteries in accordance with safety procedures.
- Remove tires, wheels, radiators, and other components as required.
- Inspect vehicles for hazardous materials prior to dismantling.
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment as required.
- Assist with vehicle lifting and positioning using approved equipment.
- Sort and stage materials for shredder feed.
- Maintain clean and organized work area.
- Follow all OSHA, EPA, and company safety requirements.
- Wear required PPE at all times.
- Report unsafe conditions, spills, or equipment defects to supervision immediately.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior experience in automotive repair, dismantling, or scrap recycling is preferred.
- Ability to safely use hand and power tools.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Mechanical aptitude required.
- Must be able to work in an industrial environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
- Frequent bending, twisting, kneeling, and standing.
- Exposure to noise, dust, and industrial equipment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Scrap yard and industrial processing environment.
- Exposure to heavy equipment, moving vehicles, sharp metal and industrial noise.
- PPE required at all times.
