Compensation

The base hourly rate for this position is $21.68.
Schedule: Must be able to rotate days and nights.

Essential duties and responsibilities

This is a production position working to mold Calcium Silicate Insulation product and visually inspect product for quality defects. The job requires that the employee be able to work safely and follow safety rules. Employee must be dependable, able to follow instructions and directions, according to established operating procedures, performs the following duties while cooperating with all levels within the organization in support of the four Johns Manville core values: People, Passion, Performance and Protection:

The essential duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Supports and promotes safe practices and environmental commitments in alignment with company commitments, policies, and compliance requirements

  • Wears all personal protective equipment as required by management, including but not limited to all or some of the following: protective shoes, glasses, ear plugs, bump cap or hard hat, gloves, dust mask or respirator

  • Must know, understand, and perform all plant and departmental safety regulations and procedures and immediately reports any hazardous conditions

  • Performs safety observations and complete training assignments

  • Must know and understand company policies, regulations, and procedures regarding employee conduct and attendance

  • Excellent attendance, attitude, and motivation

  • This position is a training position. This person must show the desire and ability to learn. Excellent attendance, attitude and motivation must be demonstrated to advance to the next level (Mold Operator II)

  • Most duties are performed under direct supervision or while shadowing an experienced operator

  • Responsible for operating in conformance with the ISO certification held by the Ruston facility

When assigned to Mold Line

  • Lift, handle, and move product from molds and properly place on mold cars within cycle time

  • Operate controls for all molding machines

  • Fill, backfill, and mop off molds and mold tops

  • Clean preheater and hopper

  • Set up block racks, block holders, pipe sleeves, and install core caps

  • Scrape and lube followers

  • Identify and reject molded product that does not meet product specifications

  • Identify molded product that would be acceptable for rework

  • Notify Mold Lead or Production Supervisor of mechanical problems that affect quality

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

When assigned to Quad-Hex Area

  • Set up Quad-Hex lifters and operate and remove material from Quad-Hex molds

  • Scrape buildup on heads of Quad-Hex and in mold

  • Identify and reject molded product that does not meet product specifications

  • Identify molded product that would be acceptable for rework

  • Notify Mold Lead or Production Supervisor of mechanical problems that affect quality

  • Performs other duties as assigned

When assigned to Basement

  • Enters tanks to clean while following required safety procedures

  • Wipe off tanks must be cleaned

  • Keeps floor and drain clean in basement

  • Clean plugs

  • Clean preheater decks (mold line & quad station)

  • Clean sump

  • Keep all barrels empty

  • All molds must be cleaned for mold changes

  • Works independently

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Education and/or Experience and Skills

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or 1 month of manufacturing experience

The employee must frequently, lift, push or pull 50 pounds and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance. Visual acuity is required to work around and with machinery including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

This job is in an industrial, manufacturing environment. The job requires working frequently around and with heavy machinery with moving mechanical parts, industrial ovens, and mobile equipment. The environment is not climate controlled and employees must be able to work in environments that may be extremely hot and humid or cold depending upon the operation and the season. Walking surfaces can be wet, dusty, and uneven. Areas of the building where work must be done have high noise levels, vibration, and/or fumes. Some working areas contain the presence of airborne particles which can irritate the skin or eyes. Employees are required to wear personal protective equipment which includes steel toed shoes, ear protection, eye protection and in certain areas may be required to where dust masks, gloves, respirators, or head protection.
