About This Position

Position: Director of Fleet Operations
Location: Tonawanda, NY
Schedule: Days
Compensation: $110,000 - $130,000/annually, based on experience
What We Are Looking For
The Director of Fleet Operations is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of fleet operations within all NOCO facilities and controlling 3rd Party expenses outside of NOCO. This role involves developing and implementing strategies to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and ensure the safe and reliable transportation of fuel products from Buffalo to Albany.
What You Will Do
  • Oversee the entire fleet of vehicles, ensuring they are well-maintained, compliant with DOT regulations, and operate efficiently.
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and extend the lifespan of the fleet.
  • Continually focus on achieving profitability through effective management of all fleet and maintenance activities, including cost control, employee development, and high training and safety standards.
  • Review capital equipment requisitions in line with Corporate guidelines and objectives.
  • Prepare and analyze reports to proactively identify trends and issues. Track costs to ensure shops are operating effectively and meeting financial goals.
  • Oversee all fiscal responsibilities including budgeting and payroll along with directing budgets to ensure financial performance objectives are achieved and quality work.
  • Develop and implement strategy to ensure the corporate fleet is right sized, right typed and modernized.
  • Develop and implement appropriate strategy for all vehicle purchases, maintenance and repair, and fueling.
  • Establish, cultivate and retain strong relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Manage effective utilization of vehicle assets - utilize vehicle management systems.Ensure maintenance shops are adequately staffed and technicians are properly trained.
  • Comply with and ensure adherence to NOCO’s high level of safety standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient operations.
  • Deal with authorized dealers, contractors, vendors to secure equipment and vehicles.
  • Estimate costs and sells off obsolete or surplus vehicles and equipment to auction company or public sales.
  • Implement and direct project work through utilization of fleet management systems with a focus on optimization and planning.
Supervision
  • Responsible for general supervision of staff and development; this includes but is not limited to establishing staffing levels, scheduling, training, written evaluations, spot checks on quality, payroll and additional pay incentives.
  • Work with corporate Human Resources to build and develop talent on the team, understand employees' career goals and provide coaching to get employees ready for advancement.
  • Supervise and manage performance; ensure tasks are appropriately delegated and completed by monitoring performance and holding employees accountable for meeting expectations.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and feedback to team members. Deliver corrective action and discipline when necessary, and document all performance issues.
  • Ensure employees adhere to company policies and legal regulations and engage HR when appropriate. Actively support all corporate policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Manage conflict and crisis; proactively anticipate, manage, and constructively resolve disputes and disagreements.
Safety
  • Perform periodic safety audits for each driver (2x per Year)
  • Ensure conformance of DOT Regulations
  • Understand, provide leadership, and communicate safety goals and objectives.
  • Orient, train, and coach all team members on safety requirements, ensure safety compliance and take appropriate action to address safety violations.
  • Establish and maintain a clean, safe work environment complying with company and OSHA standards and perform monthly safety inspections, as assigned.
  • Follow company policies to report and investigate all accidents and near-miss incidents.
  • Perform root cause analysis and address performance and related discipline issues, as appropriate.
What You Will Need
  • High School Diploma or GED, Associate’s Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years in a supervisory capacity
  • Ability to interface effectively with people at all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills both one-on-one and in speaking before a group.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with all company divisions in a way that promotes supervisory success as well as overall company success.
  • Strength in initiative-taking, and a demonstrated track record in proactively identifying improvement opportunities and acting upon them.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks demanding immediate attention, and to juggle multiple, on-going, concurrent responsibilities.
  • Ability to work efficiently and maximize productivity.
  • Commitment to integrity and ethical behavior and the proven ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Competency in the following computer programs: MS Excel, Word, Outlook.
  • Knowledge of Trimble system is a plus.
