The cook may work anywhere on the property where food is prepared. The cook will accurately and efficiently prepare, portion, cook, and present a variety of hot and/or cold food items for various meal periods: to include Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Special/Catered Events. The general responsibilities of the position include those listed below, but other responsibilities of the position may be identified. These responsibilities may differ depending on business necessities and customer requirements.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Inspect and clean food preparation areas, such as equipment and work surfaces, or serving areas to
ensure safe and sanitary food-handling practices.
• Ensure food is stored and cooked at correct temperature by regulating temperature of ovens, broilers,
grills, roasters and other equipment.
• Ensure freshness of food and ingredients by checking for quality, keeping track of old and new items,
rotating stock and following food company labeling & dating procedures.
• Monitor, cook and prepare foods to determine if they have been cooked sufficiently, using methods such
as tasting, smelling, or utilization of food thermometers.
• Responsible for preparation of stations, as directed, according to company guidelines.
• Bake, roast, broil, and steam meats, fish, vegetables, and other foods.
• Season, weigh, measure, and mix ingredients according to recipes with guidance from supervisor, using
various kitchen utensils and equipment.
• Wash, peel, cut, and seed fruits and vegetables to prepare for consumption.
• Carve, trim and prepare meats and seafood for hot or cold service.
• May bake breads, rolls, cakes, and pastries.
• May wash pots, pans, dishes, utensils, or other cooking equipment.
• Compile and maintain records of food usage.
• May assist with inventory.
• Follow food specification amounts provided by supervisor. Assist in forecasting of preparation needs.
• Prepare and serve food to customers in a timely manner.
• May assist in supporting culinary staff at numerous stations as directed.
• Communicate with supervisor regarding kitchen equipment/supply needs.
• Adhere to and promote company standards for safety, proper food handling practices, sanitation, uniform
guidelines, and productivity.
• Provide excellent customer service to include being attentive, approachable, greeting and thanking
customers.
• May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience/Knowledge:
- High School diploma, GED, or equivalent experience preferred.
- 4 or more years of related work experience.
- Knowledge of basic operation of equipment and cash handling procedures preferred.
Skills/Aptitude:
- Presents self in a highly professional manner to others and understands that honesty and ethics are essential.
- Ability to maintain a positive attitude.
- Ability to communicate with co-workers and other departments with professionalism and respect.
- Maintains a professional relationship with all coworkers, vendor representatives, supervisors, managers, customers, and residents.

- Requires complete knowledge of kitchen equipment.
- Must be able to read and follow a recipe unsupervised.
- Involved with the more complex requirements of the position.
- Applies advanced cooking skills.
- Adapts procedures, processes, tools, equipment and techniques to meet the requirements of the position.
- Substantial working knowledge of food preparation.
- Ability to provide clear directions and respond to employees.
License/Qualifications:
Certifications: Food handler or Servsafe preferred.
General Qualifications:

Physical Requirements:
· Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus, with or without corrective lenses.
· Significant walking or other means of mobility.
· Ability to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 8 hours).
· Ability to reach, bend, stoop, push and/or pull, and frequently lift up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift/move 40 pounds.
Working Conditions:
- Generally, in an indoor setting; however, may supervise outside activities and events.
- Varying schedule to include evenings, holidays, weekends and extended hours as business dictates.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is primarily in a controlled, temperate environment; however, may be exposed to heat/cold during support of outside activities. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
