About This Position
Courier Van Driver
Role Purpose:
Drives a non-commercial motor vehicle to transport goods or equipment to an from designated locations in a vehicle that has a GVWR of 10,000 lbs or less. You will load and /or unload freight as part of job responsibilities. May be required to verify product count and condition of product upon pick-up and / or delivery. Responsible for “proof of delivery” verification. Reports and resolves delivery discrepancies as directed. Typically works alone. Routes will not require overnight stays. Driver drives primarily on public roads, and customer lots while on route delivery. Locations of stops may be attended or unattended. Requires a personal driver's license. Driver typical start / finish times, hours per week, days, number of stops, etc. will vary depending on customer need.
Key Accountabilities:
- Maintain safe and efficient dock operation.
- May be responsible for hand delivery of Customer products.
- Maintains equipment fuel levels and refuels equipment during appropriate time.
- May verify the count and condition of product.
- Reports overages, shortages and damages.
- Performs daily yard checks.
- Properly secures loads, ensuring loads are within local and state guidelines.
- Drives equipment to and from maintenance facility.
- Inspects truck equipment and supplies such as tires, lights, brakes, fuel, oil and water. Notifies supervisor of current or anticipate repair needs
- Complies with all state regulations. Company policies, procedures and guidelines, including maintaining all required licensure to meet state guidelines.
- Driver punches in and out on time clock or time is recorded hourly in DHL's timekeeping system of record.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Required to maintain safe operation of company equipment and to comply with all applicable regulations.
- Control of corporate fuel card to manage fuel purchases or charging stations.
- Ability to maintain clean driving record.
- Ability to comply with all applicable OSHA regulations.
- Ability to read, understand and follow maps and GPS.
- Ability to identify, locate and disburse product (lift up to 50 lbs)
- Considerable knowledge of truck mechanics and maintenance.
- Some knowledge of practices and procedures within a warehouse or cross-dock environment.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Maintains valid personal driver's license
- 21+ years of age and 2+ years of driving experience
- Meets or exceeds DHL's Minimum Driver Qualification Policy
